Steak and Shake has decent B&G and they bake their own biscuits

Many folks on Roadfood won't like this but Hardee's has a beautiful biscuit and gravy.  Sorta cheap but good.  I do not do fast food very often but I cherry pick some things that I like.

Bob Evans has the best BnG in our area IMO. And I'm not basing that on just trying 3 or 4 places.

Bob Evans B&G is the main reason I don't eat at Bob Evans. Had some there many years ago and they just flat out sucked. Haven't been back since. Cracker Barrel does a better job, and theirs is only so-so.

You might want to give it another shot. It's only about $3.  I've only had it in the last 3 years so I don't know if it's changed since you had it. I don't think I've tried CB's BnG.

There's an outfit down here named simply Jim's that serves a decent biscuits and gravy but in my humble opinion nothing comes close to the Monument Cafe. Too bad you can't get no scrapple.

No need to apologize for Hardee's Biscuits Sundancer. Hardee's makes a very respectable product and now they've taught their Western Cousins, Carl's JR. how to make them. Been Jonesing for Hardees since I left the South and now I can get them out here! Just as good as "Back East"!

Paul, when I lived in Kingsport, TN for several years I thought Hardee's had as good BnG as could be had in the area.

While I really like the Waffle House (and I just got back from breakfast there), I wouldn't want someone's first try at biscuits and gravy to be from the Waffle House.

I love their B&G (as a side) chiefly because they"crisp-up" the biscuits before applying the gravy.

(But, I still prefer 5 Guys to WH for "chain" burgers).

They have to "crisp up" their biscuits. The pre-baked things are kept at room temperature.

Even though I knew their burgers are thawed from frozen, I did not know that.

Save for the late, great L&N Seafood Grill's, I'm not a big biscuit fan and much prefer sausage gravy over a well-toasted English muffin.  (I detest "soggy" bread).

WH's "technique" removes most of the sogginess.

As it happens, while having breakfast this morning at the Waffle House (three eggs scrambled with cheese, hash browns scattered light and peppered, and a half order of wheat toast) I got to thinking about the SOS my wife had at the Summit Diner last week. It occurred to me that I just might get some sausage gravy over toast next time to try to get something similar. I remember when in the service the SOS was crumbled ground beef in cream gravy over toast.

Not to turn this into a Waffle House thread but apparently they are required to "upsell" at least in my local one. This morning I was asked if I wanted to try their "All Star" breakfast and as it was pointed out to me on the menu the waiter described all the available options by pointing to the various pictures of the waffles, meats, etc. There were a few corporate Waffle House types in the restaurant so I suspect they had just undergone training for this. In fact the guy that cooked my eggs had a name tag that said he was the regional grand poobah or something similar.

One of the things I really appreciate about Waffle House restaurants is the fact that the top people, whether corporate or regional franchise, come in and work the grills and the booths and counters of the various stores on a regular basis -- especially weekends and holidays.

Not at all impressed with Bob Evans biscuits and gravy. But, I have had the best-I make my own.

I add some spots of tomato juice to mine! It's a throw-back from time spent in Tennessee, where you get sliced tomato with a lot of breakfasts! Try it, you'll like it!!

It occurred to me that I just might get some sausage gravy over toast next time to try to get something similar. I remember when in the service the SOS was crumbled ground beef in cream gravy over toast.

Michael, I truly thank you for leading me to Waffle House.

Not at all impressed with Bob Evans biscuits and gravy. But, I have had the best-I make my own.
Mr. Hoffman-I agree about Waffle house execs-they worked side by side with me on occasion when I worked there years ago.....

I had no idea you once worked there. No wonder I like you.

Biscuits and gravy is good, but is not a proper breakfast, your breakfast must be something heavy food, like bread omelet, milk, start your day with full of energy

Surprisingly California has some very good B&G  at little mom and pop places here and there.
One morning, very tired after picking up folks at airport in middle of the night, I made the huge mistake of stopping at a Denny for breakfast- knew better , but was as I said was  v tired, Ordered B&G and it was the worst I have ever had ,just a salty salty block of molten cement. Too tired to make too much  fuss, I told the cashier on the way out that they may want to check the Gravy - her response was amazing...`we have nothing to do with it - they just boil  plastic bags of the stuff in the back"  ..and they have the nerve to call themselves Americas Diner!
