 Homemade Dips

I made roast duck for dinner last Wednesday and one of the sides was ruby swiss chard. I had some leftover as my kids don't really like it.
At the BBQ my brother had after my niece's wedding on Sunday they served spinach dip and onion dip made with yogurt and low fat mayo, which they were so proud of. (yuk!!). I was inspired to make the spinach dip, which I rarely indulge in, using sour cream and real mayo for my 4th of July BBQ and decided to use the leftover swiss chard instead of spinach. It came out great!! When I'm in the mood for dip I don't want some low fat stuff. I don't eat it that often! I used Utz's Kettle Fried Gourmet Dark Russet Chips to dip. Very good!

    What if you'd made the dip using mayo made from the rendered fat from the roast duck?

      Now that's a thought Brad!
      I actually did save the fat. My Mom remembers eating duck or goose fat on bread sprinkled with salt  when she was a kid!
      I use the fat for frying potatoes, making Yorkshire puddings also in place of chicken fat for matzo balls.

        I'm a fan of duck fat, of course, but when it comes to spreading something on bread give me chicken fat on a slice of good rye bread with a touch of salt. Schmaltz rules!

          I love those dark russet chips.  They remind me looking for "burnt ones" when I was a kid.

              I'm a huge fan of duck fat but about making a dip with it.......after refrigeration it would be like a brick of lard.  Save the fat for frying potatoes, duck confit, but not for a dip.
              We don't normally make dips, we're just not big fans of chips and dips but once or twice a year MH makes guacamole that is out of this world.

                I am a dip freak. My friends always commented about me in that way. Mom made the best-I am known for the dips to this day.( and not for being a dip........lol!)

                    I'll often do a simple sour cream dip with lemon pepper and fresh dill, and a little salt. If I'm in the mood (and have the ingredients handy), sour cream, cilantro, s&p, fresh dill, diced red onion, diced tomato, a little white vinegar. Goes great on a lot of things, especially tacos.

                      My favorite Dip
                      One 16 oz Sour Cream
                      One envelope Mrs Grass's Veggie Soup Mix
                      1/2 Beef Bullion Cube- crushed to powder
                      One 10 oz bag of tiny shrimp (thawed)
                      Mix all (include the brine from the Shrimp) Allow to rest for a couple of hours before serving.
                       
                      I have substituted two cans of Smoked Oysters (oil drained off) in place of the Shrimp and they are very good also.

                        Al, that sounds good! Especially the substitution of the smoked oysters. Does anyone here make clam dip? I love clam dip. I remember being able to buy it in the grocery store premade maybe 30 years ago. Haven't seen it in years. I went online and found a good recipe so I wouldn't buy a premade one anymore. I'm just curious why I don't see it anymore in the stores.

                          My go to dip is a can of smoked clams that I mince. With a bit of the oil from the can I mix that (sometimes 2 cans) into a pint of sour cream with some Lea & Perrins Sauce. Sometimes I add minced shallots.

                          If I'm feeling the need of more calories I mix in cream cheese
