Celebrate Hot Dogs and Baseball Sat, 07/27/13 2:33 PM (permalink)
Just read an interesting article from yahoo about the MLB teams celebrating National Hot Dog Month with inspired creations.  Some sound wild, some sound scary, and one is a heart attack in a bun.

Don't any of those ball parks serve actual hot dogs? Those things shown are abominations.

I absolutely agree! The creators of those messes should be banned from Baseball Stadiums just like all those PED Dope Addicts .

Actually the Cleveland Indians / Progressive Field Dog sounds down right tasty.  A local sugardale dog with whitey's chili and onion and cheese.  I will take 4 right now, but not ballpark prices.

Michael, the general public is still offered hot dogs from roving and stationary vendors. Only those leasing a private, luxury suite, sky box get catered food and beverages.

Ah, thank you. A ballgame without a regular dog just isn't a ballgame. The thing is, for me, even the worst hot dog at a ballgame is the best hot dog on Earth.

I think Mogen David is made just up the road between Erie PA & Buffalo.

A fascinating book about the Hot Dog/Baseball scene circa 1985 is "Dodger Dogs to Fenway Franks" by Bob Wood. It's still easy enough to find on the used book sites.

A hot dog at the ball park is better than a steak at the Ritz.

Nathan Handwerker (founder of Nathan's) is rolling over in his grave. Like Michael Hoffman says, these are abominations. Hot dogs are meant to be simple and unpretentious. Chefs and wine have no business being anywhere near hot dogs. They are laughing at the old school hot dog joints and questioning the masculinity of those who put out these "designer haute dogs". Or as some (me included) refer to them as alternative lifestyle hot dogs.

I'll stick with a Dodger Dog, onions, relish and mustard. And a winning season!

Or maybe use summer sausage instead.

It was hickory-smoked but if I was to do it again I'd give indirect grilling with just a hint of smoke a shot; the summer sausage really soaked it up.
