Las Vegas STRIP ONLY Sun, 10/6/13 7:01 PM (permalink)
We will be in Vegas later this year. We'll be on the Strip, and we will not be renting a car.

We have one meal reserved, SW Steakhouse. We're looking for one more. Maybe two. It doesn't have to be at any price point, it doesn't have to be road food, it doesn't have to represent good value but it also doesn't have to be expensive and foo-foo. It just has to be pleasing.

We're also looking for casual lunch suggestions, again on the strip. These could be in casinos or not, just good food.

I had a wonderful meal at Bouchon in the Venetian Hotel.  Bistro atmosphere, but it is expensive.  I would definitely go back.

Where on the Strip??? Our daughter is an ULNV grad and we went to a lot of places. My favorite is Mon Ami Gabi in Paris. Great steak at a reasonable price. The Ri 'Ra' Irish Pub at Mandalay Bay is a lot of fun and great fish & chips. A short cab ride towards downtown is Chicago Joe's for Italian. An Old time 'Vegas place at 820 S. 4th St., 702-382-5637. We always make our reservation before we leave. For pizza we found A Slice of Vegas at Mandalay Place to be superior. If you are a big eater, Hash House A go go at the Quad, the old Imperial Placae is an experience not to miss.
I am not a big buffet person so somebody else may help you. Say hello to my money!!!

We'll be staying at The Wynn, but enjoying everything from The Wynn to Mandelay Bay. We probably won't be going over to Rio/,Palms/GC, nor up to Strat/Riv/Circus.

The Venetian is next to The Wynn, that's a good suggestion. We're going to Jersey Boys at Paris, so that's good, and we love RiRa at The Tropicana in A/C, so that's a good one, too.

        Anything else?

Spring Mountain Road... Is that on The Strip?

About 6 minute cab ride... couple of miles. Spring Mountain is just south of Fashion Show mall near the Wynn. I know you said the strip, but this might be worth it.

I would certainly second the suggestion for Mon Ami Gabi, which is located directly in front of the Paris resort. I've enjoyed every experience I have had there, especially on my most recent visit, since I was seated directly next to Cindy Crawford. Now THAT is an appetizer.

There is a Carnegie Deli in the Mirage and I was happy to have a good pastrami sandwich while I was in Vegas a couple of years ago. Also ate at Wolfgang Puck's in the Crystal shops (near the Monte Carlo) and had a good experience. We had a work dinner (but ordered from menu vs. set menu) at Sirio's in the Aria which was very nice.

Okay, Mon Ami Gabi looks pretty good. It looks like it will fit in right before Jersey Boys.

If you'v never been, there's an In-n-Out a very short cab ride from New York, New York.

Right by Circus Circus (if that still exists), you can get the giant 99 cent hot dog at Slots-o-Fun, which was very fun and 'old school' little casino with nickel slots.

Ah.. Slots-O-Fun...Home of the $1.00 bottled beer (domestic) and $1.50 Corona's.  The place is a bargain, but watch out for the bums.  I had one follow me around the entire casino floor telling me I should be a "model".. laughable.. since I was on my honeymoon at the time and this guy was not understanding that I was not at all interested in becoming a model for him and the rest of the folks living on his couch outside the Riviera at the time.  Maybe they've cleaned up Slots-o-Fun since then.. it's been awhile.

Milos at the Cosmopolitan is supposed to be one of the best Greek AND seafood restaurants in the country. They are very pricy for dinner, but offer a fantastic three-course lunch deal for $20-$25.

I was supposed to go there for lunch when my wife and I vacationed in Vegas earlier this year, but I came down with a stomach virus and had to cancel the reservation.

Okay, dinners are set. The first two nights are reception banquets, so we get no choice... on the other hand, they are at The Wynn, so they're probably going to be pretty good.

Then it's SW Steakhouse/Le Reve... Mon Ami Gabi/Jersey Boys... and Samba/Terry Fator.

This is going to be tasty, and fun.

Hey Joe! All lunches are open, we plan on doing those as they come up. Dim sum at The Wynn might be a good choice, assuming we didn't have breakfast buffet around 11AM!

I'd like to try Gonzalez y Gonzalez in New York New York, but if we're not there I'm not going to groan that I missed anything. Between dining, gambling and shows, we are going to be fat, happy, and broke by the end of the trip!

The Peppermill is colorful and pretty close to the Wynn.

I agree...Peppermill is worth checking out. My advice would be to peruse the Five Hundy by Midnight Facebook group as they are dedicated to all things Vegas.

BTW - If staying at the Wynn be sure to get at least one Sinatra Smash. You should be able to order it from any of the bars on the property.

Quick followup, for folks searching for the same as myself:

Our meal at SW (The Wynn) was great, but not superb. There are lots of great steakhouses, but not many superb.

Mon Ami Gabi (Paris) was excellent. I ordered chicken, because no one does chicken like the French. It was perfect: moist, flavorful, with crisp, perfectly golden skin.

Samba (Mirage) was a pleasant surprise. Gourmands take note, it's one of those eat-til-you-explode places, where the meats are served on skewers. But it was all truly wonderful. There was a thin green sauce that I couldn't get enough of.

There is so much to eat on The Strip that you almost can't go wrong. Bring your omeprazole.

I think you are correct. BTW...have you been to the Samba in Madison? I think it's great, but more fun with a group of like six or so. Actually, it's great bang for the buck. Last time I was there it was $30 a head.
