Why do "Spammers" SPAM? Thu, 10/10/13 8:04 AM (permalink)
Is there money to be made?

If so, how?

Is it just mischief?

If so, say no more; I'm an economist, not a psychiatrist.  (There is no rational explanation for those little, vindictive trolls who practice their "art' in their mother's basement, dressed in their underwear).

Maybe I'm just stupid or naive, but I cannot see the point in it.

There is a ton of money to be made, because a frightening number of people who you would otherwise think were smart are actually stone stupid, and click on the links. Just like legitimate advertising, money is made per click, or per view, or however they have it set up.

"there's a sucker born every minute."

And lots of people (not here of course) have larceny in their heart and think they can get something for nothing.

When I fist wrote that post I did a www.obviously-fake-website and if you click it it will go harmlessly to your ISP's search page.  Still, I edited it so that it wouldn't; wouldn't want to be an unintententional spammer.
