Smoothies Wed, 11/13/13 5:15 AM (permalink)
I've been thinking about adding smoothies for the summer. Just wondering if anyone is doing them and if it's worth it. I would use Dr. Smoothie 100% Crushed Fruit Smoothie mix where all I would have to do is add ice and blend. I did fresh squeezed lemonade this past summer and had lines of people every time I went out and thought smoothies would be a perfect addition for the health nuts. I'm not sure what to charge but I thought $3.50 for a 16 oz and $2.00 for a 10 oz would be a good price point. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Looks kind of expensive, about $1.75 cost per serving...50% food cost. Why not buy your own frozen fruit, frozen nonfat yogurt & juice?
Buddy of mine sells smoothies at his sandwich shop all day long, $5 for a 16oz.

I can get the wholesale cost down to $1.37 per serving including ice...39% food cost. I might have to rethink my pricing.
I didn't want to mess with stocking fruit, yogurt and juice on the cart and with a mix it's easier to keep the HD happy.
      Thanks, chefbuba

Also, I would stick with one size.

Would it be feasible to put together your own mix? You could have it sealed in bags and frozen just like the brand name, but you be able to create your own signature flavors.
