I have to admit, they were pretty tasty
Please tell me that's cocktail sauce and not ketchup...but seriously, they look great! I've determined from this thread that there is no such thing as one favorite sandwich. This one is definitely on my bucket list...another I couldn't duplicate at home.

There is mayo, lettuce, pickle, ketchup and hot sauce, just the way the make them at Domilise's in NOLA.  The shrimp are dipped in batter then bread crumbs.  Good stuff

This sandwich has no name I've ever heard.  As an adult I refer to it as a "trailor court pizza", but my Mom made them for us kids all the time and we loved them.  My kids love them, the neighborhood kids love them too.

Take a baking pan and put 6-8 slices of white bread on it(as many as you can fit), a slice of american cheese on each piece of bread.  Dot each slice of cheese with 5 spots of ketchup, and then each ketchup dot gets a 1/2 inch slice of bacon on it.  Put it under a broiler and watch it like a hawk for a couple minutes until just starting to brown.

I know - I know - it sounds odd.  Even bad with the ketchup - but it totally works.  Everyone I've made them for at first raises an eyebrow, but at first bite has an OMGthisisawesome moment.

My Mother made an odd one for me when I was a kid.  She made tuna salad with celery and Hellmann's mayo, added some halved, canned, black olives, put it between 2 pieces of homemade white bread.  She then dipped the sandwich in beaten egg and fried it on both sides.  It was pretty tasty.

I completely forgot about grinders...............meatball, sausage, veal parm, chicken parm, eggplant, plus all the assorted cold cut ones.  People in other parts of the country have different names for them, but they all have the same result...................delicious. (Remember I live in New England.)  BTW......I still cannot get a real CHEESESTEAK here, gotta go to the Philadelphia region for that, another favorite!

Sounds like a fishy Monte Cristo! Did you get the powdered sugar sprinkle as well?

A fishy Monte Cristo exactly.  I had Mom hold the powdered sugar.

A lot of ppl knock British cooking.....some of which is pretty bland and tiresome.but when I lived there, I became a fan of the Bacon Butty......a soft roll with slices of that lovely British Bacon (not US style which they call Streaky Bacon).  A little bit of butter on the roll and maybe some Brown Sauce ( a slighty fruity type of ketchup) squirted on top.

When I came back to the states, I tried duplicating with US bacon.  Finally worked out a Kaiser roll, grilled, not toasted. Bacon, of course!....but..then I added Peanut Butter (chunky) to the equation.   Fantastic!  Good for Breakfast, Lunch, late night.or any time in betweeen

These all sound very good but I like something more basic. A fresh-picked tomato sliced onto a good crusty white bread; mayo, salt and pepper.

                                        Yes indeed!!!

Somewhere in the cavernous other garage is what might pass for a pannini press. Nobody's mentioned Cuban sandwich. The last really tasty one I had was in St Augustine. Think I'll try my had at that. I've had them with ham and roast pork and cheese pickles etc. How about adding salami or is that sacrilege?

lleechef and I mentioned Cubans awhile back, and yes it would be a sacrilege. Tough part for me is finding that "airy" Cuban bread. As I mentioned before, mine still don't taste like the ones outside a store front in Little Havana with a shot of Cafe' Cubano.

As long as we're on the subject of sandwich fillings, and I may be displaying some ignorance here but can some of you tell me the difference between Braunschweiger and Liverwurst? I'm serious.

Braunschweiger is a type of liverwurst.

More or less. Braunschweier is usually smoked. Other liverwursts often are not.

More or less...Braunschweiger is the city it was named after...to more confuse the issue we have...liver mush (see Shelby, NC), chopped liver, goetta, scrapple, knipp, souse, head cheese, et al. I like them all...pretty much just regional name differences.

I would have to disagree about headcheese being the same>  My grandmother made it all the time and it is chopped upand cooked "pig Parts" in vinegar-flavored gelatin.  She always put it into bread pans to set.  It would then be sliced and put on lettuce leaves and eaten with buttered rye bread or else put into a sandwich.  I loved it and still do but have never found any to compare to hers.
