What place do I miss most after moving from Hartford to Colorado?

Lena's on Park Ave in Harford, right on the West Hartford Line.

Get the Stuffed Veggie, or go for some homemade soup.

Damn I'm hungery.

wow the pizza in colorado must be god-awful if your'e craving Lenas, some of the worst pizza I have ever had in CT . . . the only good thing about that place is the music at Sullys

Now the First and Last tavern on the other hand is some good stuff . . . they use the same pepperoni as Pepes, which is the best i've ever had

Having moved from Connecticut to Denver and now back to Connecticut, I can agree with Vegas that for the most part, the Pizza in the Mile High City is for the birds. Not to knock Colorado, there are several other fine eating establishments around the state. kdibble, try the Greenbriar out in Golden. It was always one of my favorite restaurants while living out there.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Greenbriar is on Hwy 36 north of Boulder on the Foothills Hwy, not in Golden.

        Sorry for butting in.

          I agree and disagree ...

I ate at Lena'a many times when I lived in Hartford -- especially for the calzones. I think the dried garlic and onions they (she) used appealed to my younger taste buds. Lena's always (used to) hit the spot. I haven't been there in decades. I would not be surprised if Lena sold it and it became somebody else's place and their recipie.

First and Last ... I used to go there when all they sold was shells and red sauce -- I've yet to have better. And yes, their pizza when they expanded was as close to Pepe's without the one hour drive and one hour wait and one hour drive back.

Meanwhile, what about the following blasts from the past: The Keg and The Sisson Tavern or DiFiore's(?) Pasta, or Frainklin Giant?

Meanwhile, Where are you in Colorado? If near Aspen, have NY Pizza, at a place upstairs in the town center.

I'm gonna side with kd here. Given the choice between the First & Last (which is admittedly darn good)and Lena's First & Last, I would likely choose Lena's. Both places are called First & Last as they are within crawling distance of a city line (Kensington & West Hartford repectively).

            Parenthetically,

            D.

Having spent 4 years at the lovely Univ of Hartford, I have frequented Lena's a few times. All I can say is the boozing is fine there, but I always thought Harry's in West Hartford center had the best pizza.

My mistake Pwingsx, I meant the Briarwood Inn in Golden, although the Greenbriar is very good too. Thanks for making the correction!

As a univ of hartford alum I remember eating at lenas quite a bit. I don't remember how we found it but glad i did. I liked the stuffed meat pizza with a bowl of sauce. Now I havent been in years...before my bf had kids our group of friends would stop there on our way to skiing in okemo. good memories.

                  Anyone remmeber prospect pizza?

I have had all of the previously mentioned pizza's. First & Last is in my opinion the best in Hartford followed by Harry's. Luna is good to if you like fresh mozzarella on your pie. Lena's does make a darn good calzone though.

Gotta go to the new Harry's in Bishop's Corner. The original Harry's in WH Center is now owned by the ex-wife. The new Harry's is owned by Harry.

This thread is old now, but I just discovered the forum. If the original poster is still looking for Connecticut-style pizza in Denver, they might do well to check out Basil Doc's. The couple that started the original location in Wash Park apprenticed at Pepe's. They have since sold it, and the new owner has opened several additonal locations. It is not quite as good as it used to be, but it's still better than 99% of the pizza in Denver. That 1%, by the way, belongs to Proto's.

Just went to Harry's today after an apartment search in the West End of Hartford, it was very good - best I've had outside of New Haven. Also their homemade salad dressing is unbeatable, glad they sell it by the bottle now.
