The South's most bizarre restaurant--end of an era

Planet Wayside is closing! Sadly, yes, after years of alternately thrilling his customers with his wonderful and eclectic menu and baffling them with his wayyyy out-there wisecracks, Tim is retiring.

There is talk that his son might carry on, but right now the legendary converted chicken coop in Hamilton, VA is up for sale. Insiders know that the place itself is a dump (it wasn't much improved from its poultry days), the humor insulting and strange, the service non-existent, but the food! I can't imagine life without Marion Berry Cobbler pie, or Tim's unique fajitas.

Planet W is about an hour outside Washington, DC, on Business 7 in the small town of Hamilton. Call ahead for reservations if you can--the 15 or so seats go fast. And don't be afraid of Tim--he really is harmless.

This restaurant is listed in the book "Quest For The Holy Grill - 50 Crummy But Good Restaurants Within Rambling Range of Washington, DC" by Donovan Kelly.

We carry this book around in our glovebox and use it in our weekend forays out into the countryside... have had some great meals at various "CBGs". Sorry to say that we never made it to Planet Wayside during the hours it was open.

Sigh - another non-chain, non-homogenized restaurant bites the dust!!
