Jumbo Slice

Just curious--is this a DC thing, or is it catching on in other cities as well?

A couple of places here have started making 32-inch diameter pies and selling slices. A slice goes for about $4. They have tried selling the entire pie, but custom-made boxes aren't working and it wouldn't fit in many cars. They sell a few jumbo slices at lunch and dinner, but mainly make their mark as a "nightcap" food. A single jumbo has over a thousand calories and almost fifty grams of fat. We won't even talk about the carbs.

I've heard of them in the trades, but have yet to see one... Nothing local around here serving them as far as I've seen... BTW, I hear Pizza Hut is trying to go this route, but I think their Extra Extra Large Pizza is far smaller...

A local bar, The Penny Arcade, serves slices from huge pizza's. My son's band played there several times this past summer, and the pie they make has to be at least 4 feet in diameter. They cut huge slices from this which cost all of $2.00 (with pepperoni), quite a bargain.

any pictures? HAving a hard time visualizing just how big.

I know Lorenzo's and Sons on South Street in Philly have pretty large slices. But I think they pale in comparision to what is being described.
