I remember a LUMS on main st in bridgeport back in the 70's and going there as a kid, but can't remember much about it except the big mugs of soda. what made LUMS so special?
I miss:
York Steak House
Royal Footman
Jimmies of Savin Rock - is there still one in North Haven??
And that Jennies Pizza NEVER moved out of its bridgeport hood

When I was a kid my family took us to Lums once. We hated it. We called it "Lums lungers" after that. The local LUMS have been other restaurants for far longer than they were Lums in the firstplace. Lums was still a case study in B School when I went 20 years later.

There used to be a Lums in Utica, NY accross from Murnane Field and Faxton Hospital. Hardly remember the hot dogs and not much else stood out. It is a Bagal Grove now....excellent.

Also remember one in Lewiston, ME. Used to go there during NAHL hockey bus trips when the Mohawk Valley Comets played the Maine Nordiques at the Central Maine Youth Center. Again, not much stood out about Lums except some food to put in ones stomach

I have fond memories of the Lums in Munster, In. I ate their as a child and enjoyed their hotdogs in the little red basket! Of course this is from a kids point of view, but I wouldn't mind going their now if there was one around!

We ate at a Lum's once---couldn't tell you where---it was on vacation somewhere down South.

Speaking of defunct chains, anyone remember Sam/Sambo's? Rightfully so they had to change their name...and maybe that's what knocked 'em down nationally? They were across from the mall and as a hungry 12 year old boy, it tasted pretty good to me. Of course at that age, anything does!

Sambo's - oh yeah. I was in one on the beach in Santa Barbara(!) maybe 10 years ago, and I think they claimed to be the original, and hadn't changed the name to "(No Place Like) Sam's." I remember the whipped tiger butter.

LUM's showcased hot dogs steamed in beer and I personally thought they were good. That was many years ago when hot dogs were mostly bland in East Tennessee and as a matter of fact, they still are. At that time I thought they were very good. The closest one was in Gatlinburg. They ain't there any more.

Seems to me I saw one either in Deleware or Virginia, Hampton Roads area, I was stunned to see one at all. I had a roommate from Saudi Arabia years ago and I took him there and introduced him to beer.
