Has anyone out there had the pleasure of enjoying a Romanburger from Mr. Hero? This is chain based in Cleveland (I think) that is very gradually expanding (store in Charlotte now).

A Romanburger is essentially a combination of a double cheeseburger and an Italian Sub. (eat your heart out, Hardee's Monster Thickburger - I think this one beats you for calories and carbs!)
They take a sub bun, put two cheeseburger patties on it, add sub meats, lettuce, tomato, onions, oil and vinegar, and a healthy dose of mayo. It is great!!!! If you haven't tried and you get the opportunity, you will be glad you did!

I had one of those when I was living in Toledo. It wasn't bad. But I looked up the nutritional numbers and I'm sorry to report that Mr. Hero has a long way to go to beat Hardee's when it comes to killing their customers. The Roman burger has 717 calories and 47 grams of fat. The Monster Thickburger has 1,417 calories and 107 grams of fat. And that's without fries and a diet coke.

Cousins had a sub they were testing some years back that was basically some sliced hamburger with all the other sub fixings. I liked it alot but it didn't last long.

the pastrami burger that Carl's Jr is touting is similar to a burger our own Fat Pauli's has been serving for years.. pastrami, cheese, bacon, all the fixings..

the Mr. Hero Romanburger sounds just like the cheeseburger Hoagie that most hoagie shops in eastern Penssylvania have served for years. The best one I ever had was served by The Jackson House on N. Sixth street in Harrisburg.

Web-site says the Romanburger is topped with Italian Luncheon Loaf. I didn't know there was such a thing, anyone know what this is?.

It's a variation of salami/ bologna/ ham/ dutch loaf. Depends on where you are. I've seen several varieties, tastes about the same, just a cheap form of bologna or salami to me.
BTW the cheeseburger hoagies are much better than the Roman burger, and easier to eat. I took the extra meat out and ate it on the side.
