Shaw's Warf in New Harbor Maine does fried lobster and it is VERY good. How can you go wrong dipping deep fried lobster meat in butter?

In my New England, part Maine Yankee family fried lobster was something we'd heard of, but it certainly wasn't something you'd talk about at the dinner table.

Since I posted this thread 3 years ago, I've had the opportunity to try fried lobster tails a few times, although still prefer them steamed. The ones at the CrabTrap in Somers Point NJ were excellent. In my mind, it's no different than shrimp - I like steamed shrimp and I like them breaded and fried too. It just depends on my mood. Same for flounder or sea bass - if the fish is fresh, it's hard to choose between fried or broiled. But I can understand the "purist" comments. I kind of cringe when I read about crab cakes. When I was growing up, our family had a boat on the Chesapeake bay so we ate copious amounts of blue crabs. Why take good crabmeat and add a bunch of stuff and make crabcakes when you could have a bowlful of crabmeat swimming in browned butter?
