Z, do you think this split will result in 2 world class events, or
O? Corporate sponsors seem to spell doom for the integrity of most
things cool.

I think most are hoping that the split will result in a return to a less corporate atmosphere of a more independent nature. Although it still is a great competition, it just seemed more fun and spontaneous in earlier years, local bands like the Original Sinners played and you could actually eat! Hopefully 2 good things will come from this instead of 0. I'm not sure who will be taking care of the contest at the Royal because everyone who was there every year for the last 15 years at least,is leaving.
Maybe the KCBS will issue a statement or give some more information.
