some of you midwesterners might remember just rites, popular in the 1980s with their excellent fries... Until recently I though they had all but been extinct, but there is hope! There is only ONE just rite remaining, and it's in Rushville IN! I am sooo thrilled.

Nootsie, I don't remember Just-Rites, but I do remember driving over to Rushville, I think on Thursdays, for the horse auctions. I used to love watching the little kids outside the barn having their own rodeos. Is the horse auction still happening in Rushville?

Yes, I used to go to the one in Crawfordsville (Indiana), growing up in the 60's. They also had their headquarter offices there on the north side of town. When we moved to Johnson County in the late 80's there was one in Franklin next to the high school, and in Whiteland on US 31. There was (and still is) a very large house just south of Franklin where the owner of Just Rite lived. The Big J and the Super J!

Just regular round thin burger patties. Big J was a double like a Big Mac.

The one in Shelbyville is now a KFC. It was the second hamburger chain to come to town after Burger Chef. I think it was late 60s or early 70s. I remember their fries being extra crunchy and highly seasoned, very good. The one in Rushville seems a little run down now. It doesn't help that a McDonalds opened up right next door to them. The only place I eat when in Rushville is Mr. Freshie Donuts. Especially in the fall when they have their applesauce cake donuts, yum!

The Rushville store is doing great. In fact, we just created a website for the store. Check it out.

I posted the link before, sorry I didn't know that wasn't allowed. It is still in the process of being registered with search engines. If you go to Google and search for justrite restaurant, it should be the first result now.
