I don't know about those prices shown on the sign from the 1970s. They seem quite high to me. Why, when I used to go there, when it was Whitey's Roast Clams, steamers were $1.50, roasted clams were $1 a dozen, and they didn't have lobster. By the way, U.S. 1 wasn't very rural in Guilford even in the late '40s and early '50s. It was the main highway -- the Boston Post Road -- between New York and Boston.

Great to see a big part of my childhood in full, be it poloroid, color! I remember that a charcoal grilled T-Bone was $3.95. And though thin, it was better tasting than any served at Valley's or Chuck's.

And, as if going to Whitey's wasn't good enough, after dinner a cone from Mapleshade sealed this as the #1 summer dining experience.

Thanks for this great feature. Now I will really be impressed if you have something in your archives on "Sib's", of New Haven.
