Lets talk Italian Sausage Sub! Tue, 05/31/05 10:24 PM (permalink)
I had all ready had the green peppers roasted and I made some fresh Marinara sauce then I made a load of fresh Italian bread and it all came together just now in a Italian Sausage and green pepper sub and I cant tell you how good it was ,but I did cut it into three sections and now Ive got to go to finish the rest!

    Sounds Tasty! I just got done with burgers on the grill... But that sub is getting my appetite going again...

      The heck you have to finish it, jelly. Just put one of those pieces here on-line where we can all enjoy it.

        I dont think that theres a better marriage than green peppers and Italian Sausage.It was great.

            Here's a nice twist:

            Wrap the cooked sausage, roasted peppers, fresh ricotta and some fresh mozzerella in some nice pizza dough and bake. Instant calzone.

                  The Sausage Guy-made famous for his sausage subs on Landsdowne St. outside Fenway Park, Boston has recently taken over a retail location at a former Joe and Nemo's Hot Dog Stand on Cambridge St. in Downtown Boston:

                    DaveM... Dog looks good, but that middle picture really irks me.. They have those semi-commercial Ketchup and Mustard containers with them plastic pumps. I found a nice little ice cream stand in East Grand Rapids that serves great dogs.. The server will load it up with the chili and cheese, but you get to finish it off with rest of the toppings and condiments. I tried using that mustard pump twice.. They blow out so much product, it's not only a waste of money, but ruins the dog.. Unless I want a plain chili dog, I've yet to return...

                        Well, I'm from Connecticut, but I've been eating sausage and pepper subs for a lot of years in a lot of places, and I've never heard of one that didn't have onions. Heck, they have onions on them at the Ohio State Fair.

                          I cannot imagine having a Italian sausage without onions and peppers.

                          The olafactory aroma at any event is so overwhelming that I cannot resist.

                          I usually resist the red sauce that goes with that.

                          I like the bun steamed although it is not always available.

                            Sausage Guy offers an italian sausage made to his specifications.
                            Not too much hot spices, and a nice mixture of fennel.
                            This is what keeps many coming back.
                            There has been turnover in the meat processing companies in New England due to buyouts, so many locally made hot dogs have changed.
                            Not so with the italian sausage suppliers.
                            BTW, only the mustard and catsup are dispensed that way.
                            The Chili and Sauerkraut are dispensed from behind the counter.
                            Sausage Guy took over this location-most of the counter area has not changed from the previous owner.

                              Sausage with onions and peppers, one of my downfalls. Again, another tried and true specialty with the best of the best here in the Northeast.

                                Oh Boy, am me trying to drop a couple of pounds. Not nice my dear. lol I love good italian sausage sandwiches, and I love them with peppers or onions or red sauce or all of the above.

                                    What you guys need to try is a hero made with Fried Red Peppers,Fennel Sausage,Vidalia Onions,roasted garlic,all cooked in Olive Oil on a great Hero roll. Mumm,Mumm!

                                      I've tried it with Vidalias, Walla Wallas, Texas 1015s and Maui onions. I don't like it with sweet onions. I use red and green peppers. And, if I want some hero's roll I'll buy one from some hero.

                                              Since I have a hard time digesting loads of peppers and onions, this approach doesn't really do it for me. In my youth in New England, I would get more of a sausage parm sub - sausage in red sauce with mozzarella.

                                                In Chiocago I always order it as an Italian Sausage with Sweet & Hot. Can't remember ever seeing it on a menu as a sub or being called a sub.
