Blue & White in Tunica

Took my mom to the Blue and White for breakfast this weekend. (We were down there to see Tom Jones, which was great fun.) Of course, after I made a big deal about the country ham, biscuits, and red-eye gravy, it all came out less than wonderful. The ham was way overcooked. Biscuits were not even as good as Hardees. Red-Eye grave tasted exactly like watered down coffee - no ham taste at all. And the hash browns tasted like they had been cooked in rancid oil. Anybody else had a disappointing experience there or did we just hit an off day?

I have never experienced their breakfast but their lunch has always been very good. Great fried chicken, green fried tomatoes and veggies. I sort of watched the buffet and when they brought it out, I grabbed a plate full right away. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

My experience at the Black and White was quite good. I suspect you hit the place on an off day.

I grew up in the Delta and have eaten at the Blue & White MANY times. In the past few years, the quality of the food has deteriorted steadily. In addition to raising prices (about $10 for a plate lunch) they are now using canned vegetables, frequently without benefit of seasoning. I really do not even go there any more. What a disappointment, after all these years. Management changed about the same time the quality did.

I am aware that the place was sold a few years ago. It appeared that the management was trying to duplicate the prior ownership with the same cooks, menu etc. I am dissapointed that it is not the same. I can report that the last time I was there, it was very good. It was only about 8 months ago. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Last October we had breakfasts and lunchs about 4 times and all were very good with the fried chicken being the best I'd ever tasted. We'll be back this October and I really hope we have our experience again and not yours. My brussels sprouts and mac 'n cheese were seasoned to my tastes which tend to enjoy highly seasoned items.

There is a black lady that is the main cook at the Blue and White and it is my understanding from the memorabilia on the wall that she has been the main cook for better than 40 years? Great lunch buffet!!! I arrived on both visits about 15 minutes before they opened and I carefully selected items from the buffet that were fresh and hot. Outstanding chicken with crust, fried green tomatoes and mac and cheese. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

I'll vouch for the fried pickles here, which are outstanding.
