I live in Central NJ, and have to drive down to Absecon to get breakfast sausage. I can't eat anything other than Habbersett's. Can anybody recommend other good breakfast sausage brands? I also like the spiciness of McDonald's sausage patties, for a point of reference. Thanks.

If you like the spiciness of McDonald's sausage patties then I'd advise you to steer clear of any sausage beng marketed as spicy. McDonald's sausage is just about as bland as it is possible to make food.

Thanks. I wansn't trying to insinuate that the McD's sausage was "spicy", just that I prefer that level of spice in breakfast sausage.

McD's sausage has spice?? I guess one drop of that red water spices up a dish for samjj... have you looked at the precooked patties at superwally?

Our favorite(comercially) would probably have to be Tennessee Pride, hot. It's not that hot and has a good flavor. Probably can't get it in your area though. Our favorite we buy from a cold storage(slaughter house)they have both link and ground. It's FRESH!

Tennessee Pride Hot is what's in my refrigerator and freezer.

It sounds like you want sausage without spices, to me. I wish I could help you out but we "do" spicy at our house.

How about making some? Ground pork, salt pepper, sage, and the amount of hot spice that you prefer. Shape into patties, freeze. I've done it, and the taste is worth the small amount of effort.

Ditto, Sam & WELCOME to RF!!!

I too, like sausage on the hot side, but try some "Jimmy Dean's MILD" (a national brand).
I think that would fit your tastes to a tee...

Any of you allergic to MSG? Suggest you read the ingredients of your sausage. All the breakfast type sausages, ground, in a plastic wrapper, contain MSG.

At home, I eat Lightlife Smart Breakfast links made from soy protein. Took me a while to get used to them, but considering the nitrates and saturated fat in pork sausage, I don't mind sacrificing a little taste for my health. Lightlife makes pepperoni, ham, bacon, burgers, hot dogs, tempeh, and a lot of other foods...all out of veggie protein. Check em out at lightlife.com if you're interested. (NO I am not affiliated with Lightlife, please call off the guard dogs)

Hatfield's has a flavor similar to Habbersett's and is served in many diners in our area.

Here in our section of the Carolinas we have a brand called Neese-they make several different flavors-mild, hot , extra sage, etc. It comes in a rectangular shape instead of the rolls and it is the best sausage to buy unless you know someone who makes their own during hot killing time. I like mine hot and spicy.

My local meat market makes the best breakfast sausage there is here in Northeast Wiscosnin. Nicely spiced and they arent all fat. There isnt much grease if any when you are done cooking them.

Not all have MSG. Farmland does not.

I just checked the label on a package of the Hatfield's brand I recommended above at a chain grocery store. It does not contain any MSG and no preservatives either. I usually get the unpackaged links of the same brand at the farmers' markets stalls so wasn't sure.
