King Ranch Chicken?

So, what's with KRC? I just looked at a copy of "Texas Monthly" listing things "truly Texas" and it mentioned this "bland" (?) chicken dish. I also did a search here which had KRC on "pot-luck" food. Something about fritos, creamed soup and chicken.
So it it "THE" Texas food? It is yummy or not so much?
