For something really refreshing in these dog days, try Mexican ice cream and paletas, which are like popsicles. Paletarias are opening up all over the KC area. There is a recently opened Mexican ice cream shop here that is so good and the family that owns it is delightful. It's La Tropicana. They offer flavors of ice cream such as rose petal or mango and paletas in flavors such as Jamaica, pronounced Ha MY Ka, which is hibiscus. They also have just about any fruit flavor you can think of. They also have aqua fresca, a fruit drink with crushed ice. Add the very tasty tortas and taquitos they serve and it's some great streetfood for a very reasonable price. They are 4 doors west of Southwest Blvd. and Summit, on the Blvd. For those of you who may be in the area, it comes highly recommended.
