99 Miles to Philly (NYC)
Thu, 08/11/05 6:58 PM
Had lunch at a relatively new entry in the NYC cheesesteak mix, called 99 Miles to Philly (94 Third Ave., near E. 12th Street). A tiny place owned by a former manager from Carl's (E. 34th and 3rd Ave. in NYC).
Overall, I think it was a little better than Carl's, and hence my favorite NYC cheesesteak. I had mine with Whiz and onions, and could have used a little more of each (we asked for additional Whiz, actually, and got it for 50 cents.) The lunch special was $9.99, and came with waffle fries and a Coke/Pop/Soda/Soft Drink. The bread was good, not great, and the meat actually wasn't as greasy as I'm used to (and like) in Philly. Overall, though, it was good and I'd definitely go back. But, if it's an option, I suggest trekking the 99 miles to real Philly.
