Does anyone remember toppings bar?

Does anyone remember the restaurant chain that had a burger toppings bar? I can't think of it and it's really bothering me!

Roy Roger's also has/had a burger toppings bar (but I would hardly call it a "restaurant")

Yeah, I remember in high school, going to Burger Chef (TJ, it was on Beechmont in Cherry Grove, in front of where Staples is now) with my friend Andy, who was the (1) cheapest and (2) most eccentric person I've ever known. I think you're actually referring to Woody's Smorgasburger, on Sepulveda Bl. in El Segundo-----about 4 miles from Redondo. I was there for the last time about a year ago. I've recently heard they are gone-------turned into an IHOP. Oh, the humanity!

Burger Chef was the first to have a toppings bar, called The Works Bar. Burger Chef was also the first fast food chain to have a salad bar and a kids meal, called "The Funmeal."

Flakey Jakes used to have a burger bar........located In So-Cal.........I think they have all closed now.....

Around here, the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the only place that had a toppings bar was Roy Rogers.
It is long gone, but it was mighty good. So much to choose from that I actually felt I was having it
my way.

There are still Roy Rogers in the Frederick, MD area but I don't know if they have the toppings bar.

Know we're getting into fast-food territory here, but my recollection is that that Roy's in NY started losing the works bars in 1990 around the same time that Roy's merged with Hardee's and discontinued the (formerly edible) "Trigger" burgers for Hardee's burgers.

I, too, went through a works bar subsidized phase in the early 80s. Roy's in Flushing gave coupons for a bacon cheese burger, sour cream & chive potato and drink for some incredibly cheap price. Load those babies up with shredded iceberg and that was the week's big meal.

No, Trigger Burgers were just the popular term. But they did have a unique grainy consistency, and most of the counter help knew what you meant. Oddly enough, Consumer Reports once rated them the best of national fast food burgers.

The only Roy Rogers' left on LI (in Shirley on William Floyd Pkwy.) still has the fixins bar (their horseradish sauce is awesome). Not much beats a Gold Rush Chicken sandwich or a Double R Bar Burger.

TO answer the first quetion, yes I do remember The Works Bar. I was thinking that it was at Hardees after they bought out Burger Chef, but it could have still been a Burger Chef as I had some foggy days back then..............
