"america's 100 best sandwiches" book Tue, 09/6/05 9:26 PM (permalink)
This month's Gourmet mag has a recipe "adapted from America's 100 Best Sandwiches" by Jane and Michael Stern.

Its not mentioned on this site or available on Amazon.com. A google search only brings up theGourmet recipe.

Anyone know anything about this?

I have one of Jane and Michael Stern's cookbooks "The Old Post Office Restaurant". Their publisher is Rutledge Hill Press out of Nashville. The company has a web site rutledgehillpress.com. Hope that helps!

"America's 100 Best Sandwiches" hasn't yet been published. In fact, we are just finishing up the manuscript, so it should be out this fall. The publisher will be Houghton-Mifflin. So glad you asked!

Michael -
What a great topic for the book. Has a release date been determined yet?

This sounds like an interesting book! I may have to look into it when it is released :-)

I am so looking forward to this book but I know that I will NOT be making the Elvis Presley sandwich.

What's wrong with the "Elvis Presley" sandwich?

Should I and my wife avoid them?

I would never suggest to anyone that they eat or not eat something. For your benefit, and so you can decide whether you want to avoid them, here is the recipe:

Elvis Presley's Grilled Peanut Butter
and Banana Sandwich

2 slices of white bread
2 tablespoons of smooth peanut butter
1 small ripe banana mashed
2 tablespoons butter
Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread and the mashed banana on the other. Press the slices gently together. Melt the butter (or to be truly Elvis-like, melt bacon fat!), over low heat in a small frying pan. Place the sandwich in the pan and fry until golden brown on both sides. Eat it with a glass of buttermilk.

Please note: Elvis tended to eat 12-15 sandwiches a sitting! So belly up!

Michael-
Can we get an update on when the "Roadfood Sandwiches" book will be released?
