Trying to find NY-style pizza in Chicago

Any suggestions? Or am I on a quixotic quest? I love Chicago-style, but am equally enamored with the great pies I've had in Brooklyn and in New Haven. None of the thin crust pizza I've tried so far in all my 34 years in Chicago comes close.

I can't believe no one has had a suggestion in two days. That must mean there isn't any such thing as NY style pizza in Chicago. Maybe I should open a place!

Although I haven't been there "Piece" in the city advertises New Haven style pizza. The topic has been absolultely beaten to death over at chowhound.com and lthforum.com

Thanks, Glenn. I just checked it on the web and it does look like a good one. I'll have to try it. But not tonight, as it's liable to be crowded to the gills with White Sox fans. Not that I'm against the White Sox, mind you, just that it might be a hassle to be there with two little kids.

There was this place on... hmmm... Sheffield just south of Belmont? called Pat's Pizza. Extremely thin crust. Spicier sauce, less sauce. Good, and got to my "Wrigleyville" home in usually 40 minutes on a Saturday night.

Ever had Pat's Pizza? Perhaps you could explain to this former Chicagoan what differentiates NY style from the thin crust I ate from Pat's, or any number of Chicago places that serve thin crust? I mean, other than its leavening--all the hot air from its disciples?

Marisa's in Northbrook (north of Chicago) has NY style pizza (as I am told by East Coast co-workers). I have eaten their a few times and have to admit that I have enjoyed the slices very much (NY style or not). They have a variety of slices available, including white pizza,

I watch Monday Night footbal with a Pat's Sausage anf Mushroom Pizza every week. It is excellent Chicago style thin crust but IMHO does not reemble NY Pizza in any way. I hear this place is good for NY Style

Danimal, there's a nice little piece on NY style pizza in today's Chicago Tribune "At Play" section (funny, they also had a major article on Iowa pork tenderloin sandwiches, too. The Trib must be looking over our Roadfood shoulders). They recommended several places including: Santulo's Eatery in Wicker Park, Pizza-Ria on Wabash near Michigan Avenue, Noli's Pizza on Kedzie, and Gigio's Pizza on Davis in Evanston. Have to admit, this is not my cup of tea, but good luck in your search.

I agree that Pat's, while good, is not NY style. It's Chicago-style thin crust. NY style is different, though I can't explain exactly what makes it so much better than thin Chicago pizza.

I guess we always want what we don't have. Dn't get me wrong, I like the pizza here in NY, but once in the while a nice slice of that great Chicago style would hit the spot! I just haven't found it yet. Luckily a get out to Chicago a few times a year to get my fix!

Don't shoot me but... I am a NY Pizza purist. Over 55 years I have been eating Al’s pizza and although I will eat any Stile pizza “except chain and fast food type”. I allways go back to my childhood Favorite, AL’S second is Kings NY Pizza in WV of all places. My guess is that the PH of the water is what changes the taste in different geographic locations.

You see, it's possible--even easy--to state your preference without condemning the tastes and preferences of others. jojobeans, your post stands in stark contrast to the flamers on this topic.

Good to know Pat's is still there, especially with all the changes in Chicago.

It's Cafe Luigi on Clark St.....it's right ON! Luigi is from Brooklyn, and he gets it just right! You will LOVE it..
