Lou's may or may not be a chain but it is not a franchise chain there is a big difference between the two believe me i know that for a fact after talking to a few lawyers whom practice that specific kind of law i am very aware now of the big difference between the two.Next time please make the distinction between the two when refering to a chain and franchise chain.

Don't know if it is a franchise chain or not, only that it is a chain.

I didn't mean to start an argument. I guess I shouldn't have used the word "chain" so casually. I just thought of it that way because there are a bunch around the Chicago area. I am aware there are none outside of Chicago, but never realized it remained family-owned. In my opinion, it would be idiotic to demand that this post be relegated to the "chain" portion of the site, with McDonald's and Burger King. Lou's has nothing in common with any of those national chain restaurants.

well, one might say there are a number of threads that have been moved to the FFF forum that don't, in some people's opinions, belong there. Is Waffle House Fast food? no....but you'll find two waffle house threads started elsewhere that have been moved to that forum.

and no, I am making no such demands, only pointing out that LM's is definitely a chain.

If you want to discuss Pizza Hut or Papa Jon's, then it should be on the chain part of the site. But Lou Malnati's is not Pizza Hut. Nor is it Waffle House.

It's a pizza thread. It's in the pizza section. Some people want to beat this chain/franchise/fast food to death, and then start again. Leave it alone and common sense will ultimately prevail

                    again, I shrug

I'll repeat that I'm not asking for this thread to be moved.

The fact that it is a pizza joint in the pizza forum is kinda irrelevant, because

OK- I guess my point was why not just discuss Lou Malnati's rather than all of the ancillary crap.

My family moved from Chicago to Lincolnwood in 1955. I lived on Kedvale and Lincoln, three blocks from the Original Lou Malnati's. I was there the day place opened. Malnati's isn't a chain, like Pizza Hut. It's a successful family business that's expanded in the Chicagoland area. Danimal, the Lincolnwood location will always maintain it's tradition from the past, unlike the other Malnati locations. There's a lot of history in that Lincoln Avenue pizza place, like the time I almost choked to death on a tomato slice from my pizza.

I'll remember that the next time I go to Lou Malnati's here in Rhode Island. Oh, wait a second, they don't have one here, how's about Philly, no don't think they have one there too. Des Moines? Nuh Uh, Phoenix...negative. Chicagoland only!!!

However all the chains in the fast food forum you can find in multitudes in different parts of the country. All cookie cutter clones of themselves

Burt Katz was the original owner of both Gulliver's and Pequod's two of Chicago's other pizza icons. Although largely unsung, his contributions to the Chicago pizza scene are only slightly less impressive than Ike Sewell's. The difference being that Burt is still at it! Malnati's must appeal to people who've never had a good Chicago deep dish. The last one I had was so greasy I vowed never to set foot in one again!
