There used to be a guy in Key West that had a stand set up near Sunset Pier area, down near the sandal shop, and the aquarium. You could actually see and "chew" the chunks of conch in them! Don't know if he still operates there or not...It's been a few years since I moved from Islamorada.

I used to get them at the Atomic Cafe in Lexington, KY, but they're off the menu now because the conch is so expensive. So, I guess I'll only get them when I'm in the Bahamas along with the Kalik beer, which is the beer most requested at the local Liquor Barn but they can't get it. Andrea

I wonder how they made out this past season. My brother lives in upper Key Largo and he did fine, except for tree damage, it seems the lower keys took the brunt of it all.

There is a character in a recent Dave Berry novel, Tricky Business, who gets rich from opening a chain of conch-fritter fast food restaurants. “The secret was that the fritters contained absolutely no conch. Kemp had figured out that not only did conch cost money, but also that the chewy, funky little pieces of meat were the least appealing element of the fritter.”

It's located around 51st and Butler sts. in the Lawrenceville section of the 'Burgh. Yinze should try it! This is the first time I've ever had conch fritters and they were delightful. They were really light and airy, with a delicate taste. Ray's also had conch chowder that was yummy too!

http://cowwreck.net/ The waters are loaded with conch. Snorkle out, grab a few, bring them to shore where Alex will hack into the side to release the meat. He brings them into the kitchen, and a half hour later, you've got the freshest conch fritters you've ever had. And the view isn't too bad either. http://www.nwmangum.com/BVIPanos/CowWreckPano.html
