 Puerto Neuevo Lobster

Used to go to a place years ago in san diego called Rock Lobster-----they sold Lobster Puerto Neuevo Style-----split and fried in olive oil with rice and beans and tortillas. Yum! They are long gone-----anyone know where I can find that style now?

    Almost anywhere in Baja that sells Lobster does it that way. It is less than an hour from the border to the original Puerto Nuevo, Head on down that way !! Despite the screams of anguish from the Northeastern U S A , I agree that the Baja Style is mighty good.

      Mexico is definitely the best place to go-----but I hate driving across the border. Any places in Southern Calif. that serve the lobster that way?

        The Tiajuana Inn on Redondo Beach Blvd near El Camino College used to have fried Lobster on the menu...but my last visit was several years ago...Check before making the drive to Gardena/North Torrance.

            Here is a tip on crossing the border. Go during the week, never ever try on weekends. Puerto Nuevo does not fry in olive oil. They use lard. It's part of the reason they taste so good. If you go, get the small lobsters. They taste better then the large. As you enter the village, the first resturant on the corner, Newport #1, I find is the best. They have large tables so you may dine with someone else. But it's all about the food, right. If you come across the border in the morning and go back early in the afternoon it should not be too bad.

              hey Ed, this reply is a year late, but i would like to suggest El Goloso (3 locations in San Diego). we havent had dinner there in years, but they always had puerto nuevo lobsters ~ nothing fancy, but certainly a much shorter drive than going into mexico.

              and my opinion of rockin baha lobster.. used to be great when the only one was in Bonita ~ now it's just another loud tourist trap that would rather peddle upscale tequilla than food...

                I agree.....I've been up to the door of the Rockin' Baja Lobster outside of Old Town a few times------couldn't convince myself to walk in. I will check out El Goloso---thanks!

                  No screams of anguish from this denizen of the NE US. Rock lobster is still lobster, after all, and anyone who likes it will appreciate it pretty much any way it is served. I had a similar preparation of 'langosta' in Ecuador, fried in olive oil with rice, black beans and platanos that I would love to try again.
