Panchos mexican buffet, green chile stew...... Fri, 03/17/06 4:25 PM (permalink)
Panchos is a franchise restaurant but many are individually owned. They are in 5 southern states. Tx, La, Nm, Co, Ok. Most of their food is not so great but they do make a good green chile stew. The quility also varies greatly by location but I have not had a bad green chile stew. I get a big plate of rice with the stew on top. My fav location is in Dallas near Town East Mall. Anyone else tried their green chile stew or found something else they have that is good?

Well now, if Panchos is a franchise chain then why isn't this thread in the hidden franchise place? Inquiring minds want to know.

Y'know Greymo, you're getting to be a real pain in the patoot.

Is the Green Chile Stew made with Pork Patoot, Beef Patoot, Lamb Patoot, or Goat Patoot?

Ok guys, I went back and forth as to where to post this. The "fast food " thread didn't seem right. The individual owners, even though it is a franchise, have controll over the menu. The guy who ownes the Panchos I like best makes a great stuffed bell pepper that you will not find at other Panchos, and real hard to find anywhere in my area. So.... is that atuffed pepper roadfood? And if one owner makes an exceptional green chili stew, is that?

Bill, the green chili stew is made with pork. I think pork is kinda standard for that dish but someone from Nm could tell us for sure. Xannie, what is posole. I know but can't remember. The panchos here don't have it.

I havent tried it yet, but maybe someone can tell me where to post it after I do?

Thanks xannie! The Panchos here does serve something they call red chile stew but it didn't have hominey. The posole sounds great to me, but ohhh, treated w/ lime?! Hey, I'd still love to try it. Oh, and I love menudo if it's cooked right.

But NebGuy, it's no long term cure. I'm still drinking! It did take me about 20 trys to develope a taste for it. There is still hope for you.

That sounds good, I grew up on hominey.. COmes from having a father from Virginia and a mother from Texas...
Hominey with butter was a side dish growing up.
Yes, and I also love grits!

                                Ok xannie, I found some stuff about posole at;

                                www.santafeschoolofcooking.com/recipes/posole/index.html

I hope that works. Yep, it's lime soaked corn. I know it would not be the same but could I maybe just use some caned white hominey???

Roossy, I love hominey with butter also, white or yellow. Oh, let us know how that Juanita's chili verde tasts. And post it here maybe? Or, you could start a whole new thread on "mexican food in a can". I will post some stuff if you do. But oh, have you not found my "aquired taste" thread?

                                      Juanitas bites!
I threw it away after looking at it and tasting the green "stuff".
The meat looked like the meat from Dinty Moore's beef stew, only paler.

I threw it away after looking at it and tasting the green "stuff".
The meat looked like the meat from Dinty Moore's beef stew, only paler.
No seasoning, just watery green "sauce?"...
Actually, the meat kinda looked like dog food.....

I've never touched a can of Dinty Moore's Beef Stew, why would a gourmet, like yourself admit, to such an awful thing! ACK,ACK,boil your tongue!

Actually, my ex husband liked the stuff.. I could never understand why. He ate healthy, nothing fried, and tons of veggies.
Hmmm.....But he loved that Dinty Moore..
Ack, as Bill the Cat says!
