Countdown to Roadfood Eating Tour of New England Fri, 04/21/06 9:17 AM (permalink)
The Fried-Clam-Roast-Beef-Sandwich-Ice-Cream New England Roadfood tour scheduled for May 6th and 7th will be the kick-off event to celebrate the publication of our memoir, "Two for the Road.” Last year’s tour in Chicago was a blast. This year’s promises to be every bit as delicious and all the more fun because of the book connection. There are still a few seats left to join us and the Roadfood team for the Saturday, May 6 Tour and several for the Sunday, May 7 Tour. After we’ve shared multiple meals north of Boston with Roadfood members who have signed up, we head off to Seattle to begin promoting the book, then work our way back east. We’ll keep you posted about book signings and other events as they shape up. Meanwhile, we’re scheduled to be on the CBS Early Show April 26 (the last half-hour); and look for the New York Times Style Magazine in May, for which a Times reporter went hunting barbecue with us. We hope to meet as many people as possible on the bus for the big eat-fest May 6 or 7. Remember, as Ken Kesey said, “You’re either on the bus or off the bus.”

    Hi Fellow Foodies!

I signed up for four seats on the Saturday, 2006 New England Roadfood Extravaganza, but I haven't received my tickets yet. Has anyone else received their tickets? Just checking because my post office is not known for paying due diligence to delivering mail in a timely fashion...

Due to various circumstances, we are not going to mail out tickets this year. We will have a list of all the participants at the start of the day and we'll cross your name off upon arrival.

I will be sending an email this weekend explaining additional details.

If anyone is interested, I just got our hotel room at the Courtyard by Marriott, in Danvers for $55.00 a night through Priceline. (Signman, I am continually in your debt for teaching me how to use that!) Thought that was damn good! Sue

Sue, I think it's better than damn good. Have a great time on the tour. Hold 8/26 for crabcakes in Baltimore.

Sue, Signman (and anyone else interested),

If you regularly purchase from Priceline, you actually CAN DO BETTER. You can also get cash back on your $55 purchase.

I don't know if you are familiar with these sites, but both are reputable.

Fat Wallet offers 3% back on PL bookings: http://www.fatwallet.com/stores.php?catid=20

eBates also offers a rebate. They say that they offer $3 per hotel booking. http://www.ebates.com/stores_category.go?navigation_id=10001&category_id=54

Both offer other rebates through other web sites, too.

This is not a scheme. Companies pay shopping portals a commission on purchases made when customers "click through" their web site. These sites return some/most/all of that rebate to you.

Fat Wallet has no referral program, but if you are not a member of eBates, and would like to be, let me know and if you sign up, we both get $5 added to our accounts.

            Enjoy,
            Steve

Thanks for that info - I didn't know those websited existed. When I'm ready to sign up I'll definitely use you as the referral-I'll email you. The next time we use Priceline will most likely be for the Crabcakes in Baltimore in August!

On another note, traditionally when we go on the tours Bob and I make corny pins for everyone. Not sure what the design is yet- Bob wants an excuse to go to our local Pub 199 for clams and keep the shells, clean them and use them as a base -nice excuse to go, huh??? My question is - how many? There are 50 on the bus?

Saturday will have about 55 on the bus and Sunday will be about 45.

Any Priceline newbies should first review the www.BiddingForTravel.com and www.BetterBidding.com websites. These are websites where Priceline customers post their winning bid information and share bidding strategies.

Be sure to read thoroughly the Frequently Asked Qustions Sections and postings related to Free Re-bids and Priceline counter-offers. Well-informed Priceline bidders generally are able to get rooms at 50 percent or lower than the lowest rates posted on the hotels' websites.

We'll be leaving after work on Friday and would like to stop for dinner in Connecticuit. Anyone have an "easy on, easy off" I95 suggestion? I looked at the CT restaurants like "The Place" and "The Shack" but they look like they don't serve dinner, only lunch and breakfast. Any kind of food would be ok - the main criteria being quick and easy. Thanks for any suggestions! Can't wait! Sue

It breaks my heart that I can't make the tour. I live in the area north of Boston that the tour takes place, but this is my weekend to work at the hospital. Wave to me from the bus! Enjoy everybody!

Thank you - Fish Market it is - that lobster bisque looks out of this world. I've been eating salad all week in preparation for this weekend

Didn't get the email noted in Stephen's 4/24 post. Did it go out? Am I missing something? Getting ready to go to Rockport later this afternoon and looking forward to the clams!
