Unfortunately, if there's a two-week notice policy for resigning, the employees may be liable for monies lost. Not sure about that, but if I was the owner who heard about it from the numbnut manager, I'd try to recoup as much as possible.

And, not that I condone treating employees like crap, but I would hope that the employees had documentation of the crappy treatment by the manager. Just as management documents performance to protect itself, employees should do the same about their employer. Keeping journals and sending letters to the management when needed.

Both manager and employee may be at fault when it escalates to that.

I've had crappy jobs, and ash-butt managers (Anyone who read a story of mine about the Big Boy management in North Syracuse, NY can attest to that), but I didn't wait for it to escalate. I tried to handle the problems on spot, to avoid later blowups.

That said, it doesn't always work out congenially, I know, so maybe in this case, the employees had valid reasons to up and leave.

Singing for your supper! While I agree that there are in fact two sides to every story. A complete walk out, I think, may say something about current management. I've walked out before but to be fair I am a prima donna/rock star. I will not be reneged on! I will be compensated as agreed upon. I will perform my obligation to the best of my ability. I can communicate my requirements but I've been doing this awhile. Tempermental people in this business. Some would say plum crazy. Pressure and stress affect everybody differently. That's me on the right! And if your not feeling that pressure and stress in this business your not doing something right! I wonder if that feller is under thirty. Never put a someone under thirty in charge of something with sharp objects and hot surfaces unless they have passed some kind of management course, and or have walked in those moccasins he's manageing.

That is an excellent point. Working ones way through the ranks gives one a far better understanding of what it is like to be in the shoes of his/her workers. Too many ascend to the throne without being a royal subject...that is never a good thing!

OK the manager was a jerk, only an assuption, but a short phone call to the owner could have prerved jobs and keep a business open. But no let's do the Martin Luther thing.

                    Of course,
                    Manager is a jerk. Assumption.
Owner wants to keep his staff and keep his business open. Assumption.

Talk to the owner before posting a "Martin Luther" proclamation on the door.

                    Questions?

Martin Luther and MLK are not the same people, better check the context here. I understand the Martin Luther reference in nailing your complaints to the door but nothing to MLK, V960 is correct in his reference.

I am surprised that someone did not know of Martin Luther, at least one did.

I went to Wartburg College in Iowa, I better know who Martin Luther is! I'm not Lutheran but it gave me a good education!

                            My mistake.
Martin Luther broke away from the Catholic church. I think he is the father of Protestants, but I am speaking strictly from memory here from bible school.
Never meant to bring up MLK, I guess I jess has enough WTFS? today. Here in GA we swallow MLK on a regular basis. Its habit.

Proceed, and thanks for the heads up Klando1s and v960.

                            Humbly yours,
                            Copper
