Can Anyone Help? Soft-Serve Question Wed, 05/17/06 2:35 AM (permalink)
Does anyone here know why soft-serve in California (mainly Tastee Freez) tastes different from East Coast soft-serve? I've sampled dozens of different soft-serve stands, from independents to Dairy Queen, on the East Coast, and the product there is heavier, whether it is called "custard" or just ice cream. Does Tastee Freez use a different recipe? I've wanted to solve this mystery for years, hope someone can help!

That is a question that has baffled mankind for ages. I think that the whole West Coast in general is a little lighter than back here in the East. Chow Jim

Seems the cows are happier on the left coast. Might take an angry one for the thicker version as we have out east.

Don't know about soft-serve, but I know Maxwell House coffee was different on each coast. "Pacific" Maxwell House was a lighter roast than "East Coast" MH (even thi they were labled and advestied as the same). They thought that the East Coast wanted darker coffee because it had more European immigrants who were used to espresso.

Maybe those European immigrants are used to heavier Tatee Freez??????

Find a Foster's Freeze and try their soft-serve. A West Coast thing.
