Archway cookies Sun, 05/21/06 2:21 PM (permalink)
Lately, when I've wanted to indulge my "taste" for cookies, I've been buying the Archway cookies. My current favorite is the iced lemon, which is a large, soft cookie with a lemony frosting. The iced oatmeal cookies are good too as are the molasses ones--and they're all soft! Well, I don't think -all- of the Archway cookies are soft, but the ones I like are.

Anyone else partial to the Archway brand? Oh yeah, I also like those Nabisco sugar wafers, Michael . The local Safeway carries them and I do get them from time to time, but unfortunately find that I can easily polish off the entire box!!! Can't afford to indulge that taste very often!

Yes! Archway cookies are among the best of the "store-bought" cookies. I too favor the iced lemon. Unfortunately, I haven't seen my very favorite Archway in years - Chocolate Chip Icebox Cookies. These were oblong, maybe 2" x 4" and soft but almost crumbly. Does anyone else remember these?

Didn't they have a soft, brownie type cookie with chocolate frosting? Those, I loved!

I like Archway cookies. They taste great and the price is just right.
My favorites are the Windmill cookies and Fruit & Honey bar cookies.
Try them, I know you will buy them again!

Oh yeah, Archway. The fruit filled, molasses, soft oatmeal raisin, chocolate, lemon. To name just a few. I've been a hopelessly addicted user for many years.

I like Mom's brand Iced Raisin or "Taffy" cookies that taste like coconut...

We often had Archway cookies in the house as I was growing up. I think my Mom thought they were healthier than Oreos and cookies like them. We frequently had the soft oatmeal cookies, and I remember the icebox chocolate chip-- They were in bars and were sort of the texture of "Sandies" if I remember correctly. My favorites are their soft molasses cookies and date-filled oatmeal cookies. LOOOVE that date-goo in those soft oatmeal cookies!

The lemon are so sweet they make my jaw ache, but they are the BEST.

Diner-Lover, I think your Mom and mine must have read the same magazine or something. Archway was special and better for you than boxed cookies, but they were also a special treat.

I loved the hermits. I think there were also some kind of oatmeal cookies with a jelly filling my Mom would buy occasionally. I'll have to look for them again.

Here in Michigan, the Chocolate Chip Ice Box cookies are still around. They also have Pecan Ice Box Cookies. They're my favirite.

My Mom was very influenced by stuff she read in magazines or saw on TV, so we kids endured a few "experiments" over the years-- most short-lived, mercifully. And thankfully, the Archway cookies were a positive experiment !

I looked on Archway's website and found nothing, so I did a search to see what kinds of Archway cookies are still available and found a lot on an Amazon.com site showing many of the varieties:

                      http://www.amazon.com/gp/search.html/104-8563416-6182360?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=3580501&brand=Archway

I forgot about a few other Archway's Mom used to buy: the Chocolate Chip Drop cookies-- soft and cakey, but they had small chocolate chips, as I remember, and not too many of them, either. Also, she'd sometimes buy the Fruit and Honey bars which were tasty. I see on the Amazon.com site that they have a Raspberry filled cookie that maybe is the same variety your Mom bought, Ashphalt.

I'd love to have Archway's (and other cookies, for that matter) in the house, but I'm a cookieholic and Mr.Diner-Lover would have to hide them or I'd eat most of them in a day or so. But then again, Mom said they were nutritious.........

They are called Brownie Bars, and yes they are tight.

I went out in search of the date-filled oatmeal cookies .. found them in the second store and was disappointed .. they barely had any filling in them :(

We seldom buy cookies, but at Christmas time I stock up on all the Archway Christmas cookies as they are so very good and save all that baking time. There is such a nice selection at Christmas in addition to those available year around.

                              Great product.

Does anyone remember the Archway Christmas cookies that were mint flavored with red and green chips inside of them? Also, do they still make the peanut butter chocolate chip or cherry chip ones for Christmas? I went to the website, but its just a title page with contact info. I used to get them at Price Chopper in Central NY, but the last few years, the one I mentioned above were never available. They were my favorites!
