Joe,

It depends on which one you're talking about - there are probably about 20 in the area. I worked at one in Kenner in 1980. We had chicken tacos - that's where the leftover chicken went (that is, the leftovers we didn't take home!), but I don't recall tamales (except for Manuel's, of course). When I worked there, we didn't even have biscuits or red beans and rice yet!

Store #2 is also in Kenner, and it was always good. When it first opened, it was super expensive compared to Kentucky Fried Chicken and Church's, so we didn't get it much. The French Quarter one was good, and another one in Kenner used to have a buffet .

Aaah, the chicken tacos. I lived in Kenner from '80 to '86 and would go up once a week to the Williams Blvd. and W. Esplanade store in Kenner and get 4 pieces of spicy chicken with fries AND a chicken taco for take-out. I knew it was made with leftover chicken and they weren't really spicy but I liked them as a prelude to the chicken. It took the place of the fries. The chicken was stacked on top of the fries and they would be "almost" inedible and soggy by the time I got them home. I was a lean, mean machine until I moved to New Orleans. By the time I left, I was an overweight slug. Way too much great food in that city. I have sorta slimmed back down since I moved to the west coast of Fl but I do wish I could order a chicken taco at my area Popeye's store.

WISH LIST: No more hurricanes or tropical storms in the Gulf this year PLEASE. Maybe we should build a really high wall from Miami to Trinidad to keep out the hurricanes like the wall they want to build on the Mexican border. That makes sense, right?

Cool. We hope to return to New Orleans for a visit someday.

Love that chicken at Popeye's (not that spicy thought) and the red beans and rice. Does church's make spicy?

As an aside, Popeyes and Church's merged in '89 but were operated as separate entities. From what I've been able to find online, Church's was sold in '04. And yes, it offers spicy chicken as well.
