chicago breakfast

I have been to Chicago many times , but I have only eaten breakfast at one place. The place is called Nookies and it is pretty good, but what other interesting options are there?

Are you in Chicago proper or greater Chicagoland? Ann Sather's on the North side has been around for ages and always popular. About every suburb has a home grown place. Alexander's in Elgin, right at I-90 and Rte 31 is a veteran, a great breakfast place. Paul's in Elgin also, on McLean Blvd. Blueberry Hill in Aurora on Eola Road and New York St. A great Sunday brunch is at Port Edwards in Algonquin, its on the Fox River, has a great view and features a nautical theme. I'm more familiar with the 'burbs.

When I am in chicago, it is mostly near downtown or near lincoln park

Ann Sather would be a good Lincoln Park jump. I'm pretty certain the Stern's have reviewed it which I think you can get to through this site.

Two places I would recommend highly are Lou Mitchell's and Wishbone.

I'll second those places and add:
any of the Original Pancake Houses or Walker Brothers restaurants -- there are at least 3 that I know of, on the Gold Coast, in Wilmette and in Highland Park; the Wilmette location would win my vote for best breakfast place in America.

the Lucky Platter, Evanston. Very creative, slightly higher than average prices

Le Peep, also Evanston. Part of a chain I think though I've never seen another.

Golden Apple. Best 24-hour restaurant in the area, breakfasts are huge as you might expect but also quite good.

Chicago Diner. Vegetarian, but if you can accept that limitation, excellent. Great selection of fresh juices.

Probably more I'm not remembering, but that'll do.

How about the breakfast club, great breakfast and lunch menu. I believe that it is located on Hubbard.

Don't forget the Breakfast Club, 1381 W. Hubbard St., (312) 666-3166. Definitely a one-of-a-kind.

A Chicago classic is Lou Mitchell's, near Union Station, I think on Jackson. They use top quality ingredients, for example, double yolk eggs for all egg orders. By tradition, while you're waiting in line they hand out comp. doughnut holes and Milk Duds.

Ina's on Randolph is really good. The menu seems is limited, but everything is prepared with attention. It's in the same general area as Wishbone, Lou Michell's, and the Breakfast Club. Ina herself is known as the Breakfast Queen and is almost always there to greet you.

On Chicago Ave is Flo's, good stuff in the classic Chicago storefront style.

On Division is HUE's (Hilary's Urban Eatery) is cool with a Mexican tilt.
