Buy a 1.75 quart of Breyer's (pretending to be a half gallon) and you're never sure what you're getting. Sometimes, although much less frequently lately, the french vanilla is smooth, creamy and laced with vanilla flavor; othertimes, it crumbles when scooped, has an odd flavor as though it were made by high school home ec students, and is somewhat sickening to eat. About the best flavor to get is creamy chocolate. Otherwise, forget Breyers. Have you noticed Breyers seems to be expanding their shelf space in Kroger's and Safeway grocery stores?
