Ynotryme: You're right about Black Raspberry...it is very common here in the NE. I just had a big cone a day ago at one of the homemade ice cream places that dot the CT coast. I had forgotten just how good black raspberry can be. I think I need another one soon. Friendly's used to make a good one, but I haven't had their's in many years. I don't think they're as good as they once were--I recall that Consumer Reports once found their ice cream to be one of, if not the, best available in supermarkets.

You are singin' my tune. Black raspberry is my earliest recollection of any flavor of ice cream, and remains my favorite flavor to this day. Nothing makes me happier, flavor-wise. Not even chocolate, and that's saying a lot.

So I wonder what the original poster ended up serving?

Another vote here for Blue Bell, tho you can't get it here in Virginia. Love Breyers but only when it's on sale. So it's Turkey Hill...but I like their ice tea better than their ice cream! The Blueberry Oolong is addictive.

I love Turkey Hill. My favorite flavor is called Grahm Slam, which is made only during the Phillies season. You used to only be able to buy it at the game, but now they have half-gallons in the grocery store.

VBlue Bell is the Best. Followed by Bryer's - everything else is a distant 3rd

My 'new favorite' is Mayfield Blueberry Cream Pie.

I wonder what will be next...

This is almost redundant- there is another thread about favorite ice creams and soft serves also activated today- depending on where you are located, a national brand such as Breyers is good- and if you haven't yet tried their extra creamy- give it a whirl- they even have a "triple chocolate"- milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate- outstanding. Maybe there is a local dairy close by and you could work a deal with them to supply for a discount with an ad using their name in your PR? Years ago, an ice cream social meant that the ice cream was made in ice cream freezers on site- sure do miss those times- that was the best ice cream ever!

I don't understand the lack of love for Dreyer's/Edy's... of course I am biased but FYI they have the largest market share in the premium ice cream category. For a good reason, I believe. Way better than Turkey Hill, IMHO.

I don't know if they still keep their vanilla beans [actual beans, yes] in a vault, but they used to.

Funny thing too, they and Haagen-Daz are related and as of last year are both owned by Nestle [yes of Switzerland].

Dreyer's has a lonnnnng west coast history. The reason they are "Edy's" in the east is because Breyers sued 'em to stop them using the Dreyer's label. Admittedly it does confuse people... but only in the west where for some reason Breyers was allowed to go into the Dreyer's market area using their original name. Go figure.

Being in every state of the country helps that though, i believe the 2nd or 3rd and 4th companies are only in 10 to 20 states in comparison.

I grew up drinking Stroh's beer in Ohio with my dad; who knew they also made ice cream! If I ever get to Detroit I'll make it a point to track some down!

Up here in Maine, Gifford's is very popular. It's creamy and good. And I still like Ben and Jerry's--I just had their Creme Brulee and it is delicious!

Yeah Janifer, the Stroh's Beer was right across from their Ice Cream Plant (which will be defunct) just across from Downtown on Gratiot. Now the Crain Communications buildings (That big green glass buildings) occupies the site.

As far as I'm aware B&J's are in every state too... and Breyer's.

Ben & Jerry's owner, Unilever, has made sure that the product is sold as widely as possible, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was now available nationwide. In fact, B & J's is now sold in the UK and in several other places overseas, so I don't see why it wouldn't be available in all 50 states.

Yup. I just wish it weren't so DANG expensive here (UK). Tastes the same though!

Mayfield is in the southeast mostly.
                                    And Blue Bell:
                                    http://www.roundtop.com/bluebell.htm
62 percent market share and is the number three best-selling brand in the nation, even though it is only distributed in eleven southern states, with only about 12 per cent of the population.

I keep hearing about Blue Bell... some day I've got to try it!

I admit to being 100% spoilt by having access to homemade ice cream in about 20 flavors any time and it's so good I never buy at the store any more!
