Does anyone remember these candies?

I know they're not competely unavailable, but they alway seem so hard to find! I was very excited when I went to the NYS Fair in Syracuse and found this candy warehouse. Tis but a fraction of the treasure trove I found!! A wider shot of the warehouse:

Yes, they are. I grew up with all of them and they were true penny candy then. Where have the years gone?

I can and have made myself sick on Squirrel Nut Zippers, Squirrels, Mary Janes, and Bit O Honeys. Mary JAnes and Bit o Honeys still pop up in those 2 for a dollar candy bags. But never Squirrels. My faves. My grandfather who is 86 remembers eating Squirrels and Mary Janes as a kid. That's cool. mary Janes used to have a nice center of peanut butter. Now its either only a little or not there at all. Too bad; it's what made them special.

I did a quich search for these candies' history. Squirrels began in 1890 and Mary Janes in 1914, both made in Boston. NECCO has acquired both brands. And Bit o Honey is the baby, beginning in 1924 in Chicago. Nestle makes it now. It's really nice that these true bits of Americana are still around.

I think Brach's has butterscotch disks and root beer barrels--I didn't care for these as a kid but like them now. I guess they are "adult candy!"
