Anybody know about these? They're also called "October beans" where I was born (Bristol, TN), I guess because that's when they harvest them. They are burgundy and cream striped. You can get the dried ones at Food Lion. Get some side meat, too, and cook them with that. Be sure to soak them overnight first. These beans taste somewhat like chestnuts and turn a nice brown when they're cooked. Nothing better. This is the season I crave them, just picked some up on the way home from NC. I got five pounds, they should do me all winter.
