Athens Restaurant Charoltte-CLOSED

This landmark for b'fast is now closed. The community college near by owns the land and will not renew the lease. Forty plus years of 24/7 service now gone.

Very good b'fasts, sandwiches and an odd form of entertainment late at night. The pimps would bring in their girls to feed them b'fast now that the johns were gone for the night. Yuppies trying to sober up or come down from nose candy or feed the munchies plus at least two booths full of policemen. Bums (or to be pc, housing challenged) spending the result of the days panhandling.

Gonna miss the place.

We had occasion to go to Athens more than once in our younger years, after a night out at the Palamino Club. I read about its closing, and felt a pang of sadness. You are totally right about the late night crowd. It was a show, especially if you yourself went in with a little beer buzz. Hate to hear the old place is biting the dust.
