MikeSh: The board admins have placed some restrictions on what topics should not be on the News forum, and so I am going to paste your recent Cincinnati questions here and simply continue your old thread. Much of the info contained herein is still quite relevant and useful, and new readers will get a look at this older thread.
That said, on with your question:

I just found out that I'll be leaving for Cincy this Sunday, the 18th. This will be my 3rd year in a row to go in July. Last yearI posted a travel log here about my gastronomic experiences while in route and while there. Do you fine folks want a repeat?
I'll be looking for new places to eat and will revisit a few old favorites.
I'll definetely be going to Grater's for ice cream and I found 3 different BBQ places to try. I'll be going to Izzy's for corned beef and pastrami sandwiches. Otherwise I'm looking for suggestions.
Oh, and lets not forget Jungle Jim's market. I'll hit this up on the way into town Sunday to stock the pantry at the kitchenette I'll have for the week.
MikeS.
First off, glad to have you again :-) I loved your original travelogue, will certainly enjoy this new one :-)
I'd divide this into Downtown (ie, you should be able to walk there) and those that will require a drive.
Breakfast - downtown
Chick-Fil-A in the Carew Tower food court
The breakfast biscuit is suprisingly good.
First Watch 7th street near Main
Suprisingly good breakfasts considering this is a chain

Never had breakfast there, but the Sterns did, and appeared to like it. Woo! You can get goetta there :-)
Breakfast - not downtown
Sugar N Spice on Reading Road in Bond Hill
My top pick in Cincinnati for breakfast. As roadfood-y as it gets, and excellent. Only open breakfast and early lunch hours.

Sakkio of Japan in the Carew Tower food court
Recommended by the Sundancer himself, as well as yours truly
The Big Easy in the Carew Tower food court
I have a group of friends who work downtown, and the Bourbon Chicken plate is hands down their favorite cheap lunch
Redfish Corner of Elm and 7th
This is a sit down 'cajun' restaurant and bar, not too pricey at lunch, and I have never had a bead meal. Can't speak to it's 'loosiana' authenticity, it's just plain good.

Very good, regular lunch specials
http://www.leboxxcafe.com/ Burrito Joes On 4th street near Sycamore
Overstuffed burritos with your basic rice and bean sides.
Mullane's Parkside Cafe On Elm near 8th.
Famous for vegetarian fare, but they can add meat to any dish on request
http://www.cincinnati.com/freetime/dining/reviews/downtown.html Arnolds on Eighth Street near Main
One of the oldest restaurants in Cincinnati, recently added a cheap eats menu. Go early or late, or you'll be waiting for a table
http://www.cincinnati.com/freetime/dining/reviews/downtown.html http://cincinnati.citysearch.com/profile/8153387/ Skyline Chili Several locations around downtown
Probably better Cincinnati chili than the other big chain (Gold Star)
Izzy's Also several locations.
Honestly, I think they are a bit overrated not to mention pricey for what you get, but they are on your to-try list, so go right ahead :-)
Lunch/Dinner - Not downtown
ZZ's Pizza Eat Walnut Hills, just north east-ish of downtown
Our favorite "gourmet" pizza in Cincinnati
http://www.cincinnati.com/freetime/dining/reviews/071604_zzs_yum.html Mio's Pizza
Many locations, see website
Fabulous thin crust and Chicago-style stuffed pizzas. If you like sesame seeds, ask for the sesame seed crust.
LaRosa's Pizza
Many locations, see website
I mention LaRosa's because it is very, very popular in Cincinnati and is based here. Very good sauce. Go for the thin crust over the thicker varities for best experience. I still like Mio's better :-)
Ollie's Trolley Over the Rhine
This is a little Trolley car that has been convertted into a food stand. No interior seating - heck, there is barely room to stand. GREAT burger and fries place. Neighborhood is a little rough.
http://www.cinweekly.com/content/2004/02/18/0218olliestrolley.asp Blue Ash Chili in Blue Ash, about 10 miles north of downtown
I think you've already been to Camp Washington Chili - time to try the place I think serves a better 3 way and cheese coney.

Really, really excellent smoked pork ribs, pulled pork, brisket, texas chili, everything home made. Wonderful.

In Fairfield, a few miles north of Jungle Jims on the right hand side as you travel north on Rt 4.
This hole in the wall is one of the best kept secrets in Cincinnati. Really, really great chinese and vietnamese food, really low prices. Easily my favorite lunch spot in Northern Cincinnati
http://www.mixconnections.org/CinciDiningChinese.html and let us not forget, since you missed it last time around
Montgomery Inn
Do the Boathouse, which is just east of downtown on the river
I know there are readers here who hated it. I know there are also a lot pf people in Cincinnati who absolutely love it, myself included. Never had abad meal there, and they have a lot moe than ribs there. If you don't think the ribs will go over well, get the rib appetizer just to try, and order one of the non-bbq entrees, all of which are great. The saratoga chips are not to be missed, nor is their house vinegrette dressing.
