Driving Pgh.-Omaha via I-70/I-29; return via I-80

Unchain me! I'm looking for good roadfood stops within 10 miles of these Interstates. I've got K.C. bbq covered through the gasbbq website, but need lotsa other suggestions!!!

You can't get more unchained in St. Louis than the Crown Candy Kitchen. It is right off I-70 on St. Louis Avenue - but that exit is for eastbound traffic. The Crown Candy Kitchen, virtually unchanged since 1917 is a neighborhood malt shop with burgers and sandwiches (egg salad is classic). Also the size of the booths are a strong reminder of the days when Americans weighed less.

I've traveled this road many times. First stop on I70 Should be Schmidt's Sausage House in the German Village Section of Columbus. They have a variety of good quality german food and beer in a beer garden atmosphere. My next stop would be Hollyhock Hill for great fried chicken in Indianapolis. Finally a stop at Mama Campisi in St. Louis for good Toasted Ravioli. Do not, I REPEAT! Do not go to Rigazzi's for Toasted Ravioli..Yuck
Returning on I-80 I would either go with the Iowa Machine Shed in Urbandale Iowa (just outside of Des Moines) for a stuffed pork chop that you just wouldn't believe. Or I would also recommend the White Way restaurant in Durant Iowa for another Great Iowa Chop with a huge and delicious salad bar which could be a meal within itself and Sour Cream Raisin Pie. I would also hit one of the Deep Dish Pizza offshoots in the South Chicago Suburbs off I-80. I believe Gino's and Giordano's have restaurants there. You might want to check their websites. Finally a trip across I80/90 is not complete across Ohio without a visit to Tony Packo's in Toledo for their Hungarian style Hot Dogs and sides

Don't forget the Amana Colonies in Iowa, about 5 miles north of I-80 at exit 220.
