Tuna Melts

I remember ordering these in restaurants as a kid, sure would like to see these resurge and end up on a couple menus down here in the south. Ya ask for them and people look at ya funny.....

What ya put on your tuna melts....

I remember tuna on a toated bun with slice of tomato and melted swiss or american cheese, depending on where you wer... I prefered the swiss. garnished with a kosher dill on the side and salty chips.

I don't think Ive ever ordered a tuna melt but I do make them at home, the GeorgeForman makes them super easy. I use whatever cheese is handy, the bags of preshredded makes it simple to change the taste so does the flavored mayo's now available. Using the foil packed tuna the longest part of making lunch is chopping the onions!

I do tuna melts on my George Foreman grill too. Being too lazy to chop onions, though, I put a spoonful of salsa in my tuna and use pepper jack cheese.

Hey, I'm home and I haven't had lunch yet ...

Don't forget the tomatoes under the cheese!
Also: mustard. Maybe raw onion rings too.

There is a pizza place up here in Vermont called Mountain High Pizza Pie and they make the absolutely most delicious tuna melt. They add secret spices to it to make it super flavorful. This thing is to die for.

What is it with the rest of the country?!? Another poster mentioned they can't find club sandwiches anymore. Let me assure you that here in the Northeast, any diner will make you a tuna melt (mine on rye, with swiss and tomato please) without blinking.

I have always made Tuna Melts open face on an English muffin half. Toasted muffin, slice of tomato, scoop of tuna salad (with celery please!), topped with a slice of cheddar and placed under the broiler for a moment or two. Yummy!

NYNM: Mine VERY similar. No mustard though as I use Durkee's Famous Sauce. Tomatoes a MUST, and also, what do you mean "Maybe" about the onions The onions are "definite" in my arena.
