Di Fara's is out of business

I have been to Di Fara's many times, its by far the best Pizza EVER. I am a native New Yorker and a Pizza connoisseur. Yesterday I wanted to bring my girlfriend for the first time and have her try it. It was gone another Pizza place was there in its place, it was closed but its was definately a new sign, it was a kosher pizzeria instead. It was the sadest moment I was dumbfounded....I felt like I can never ever find a pizza that comes close... Did they move? If so, where? Spread the word!!! After 40 years in operation, gone just like that, no notice.... Dust in the wind.... I can't believe that

Um, TJ, kosher pizzerias are not unusual in some areas, and there are a number of them in New York.

say it ain't so!! can anyone confirm or do I need to drive to Brooklyn to see for myself? I'm hoping Mr. Dagas was partying and got confused.

NO ONE else is reporting the closure, including SliceNY.com.

I tried calling DiFara and got busy signals, no answer and not in service.

This story needs to be verified. Just last Thursday, January 11th, 2007, the New York Daily News published a list of interesting restaurants in Brooklyn. Di Fara's is one of the places listed:

i hate to say, but i think you were 1 block off- there is a kosher pizza place on J and east 14th!!! so if you had gone one block further to east 15th, you would surely have found dominic dimarco working his magic to the throngs at difara. easy to confuse the corners- they all look the same. difara's is an oasis in a sea of mediocre kosher food (though essex on coney, the glatt kosher deli on CIA and J, has its moments of pastrami greatness in these times of "lean" choices for pastrami in nyc). i will, however, force myself to drive over there tomorrow night and get a pie, just to make sure... enjoy fb

I think it has been established between the posts on this and other boards that someone got confused on Avenue J. I only hope that every other pizza nut like myself dosen't show up there this afternoon just to make sure. A square with sausage and onions for me.

These famous slices, round pies and crusty Sicilians - each handmade by the 70-year-old Dominic DeMarco - are some of the very best anywhere. Something tells me that DiFara's did not close down and get replaced by another business in the three days since this article was written. DAGAS either is very confused or he/she is playing games here.

First time poster Dagas also added the same information to a thread from 2002 on another message board. He was a first time poster there, too.

Since he went there they day before he posted his message, that would make it a Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath. Real convenient that he couldn't go in and ask the employees what happened to Di Fara's.

It might be a good idea to blow away this thread before the search engines pick it up. DAGAS can always come back with photos of the place. Sliceny has pictures of Di Fara's storefront on their site.
