I'm heading south on I-5, San Francisco to Los Angeles. Anyone out there with any food tips for this long days journey?

Bring a sack lunch and a cooler full of legal beverages. Turn off the A/C in your car and ride with the windows open. You won't need a potty-stop for the entire trip due to the dryness of the air blowing in at 100 degrees or more. That road is barren!
Today the Nation's High Temp was in Redding CA..On the I-5...112 degrees. Good Luck!
If you decide to jump over to the 99 you can do a search on this site for some recommendations in Fresno and Bakersfield

You might try Harris Ranch---they have an Inn on the ranch---couple of hours south of the Bay area, that features theur beef----range fed and supposedly not loaded with chemicals and antidiotis---i know it TASTES good and is pretty lean----havent tried the lunches and dinners but the breakfast is great--with of course--several variations of steak and eggs that fed us well.

Not roadfood but I always enjoy the In n Out Burger in Kettleman City. Haven't had In n Out for 2 years now and really miss them.

Harris Ranch has at least 2 restaurants there in Coalinga. It's well worth the stop--------the dinners are excellent and the coffee shop meats are of course very fresh. They also sell meats there vacuum-packed. Try the tri-tip sandwich!
Not too far off of 5 in Bakersfield there is a Basque Restaurant called woolgrowers. Family style Basque food. Haven't been there in several years but it used to be a great place and only about 20 minutes out of the way.

I just love the family style Basque restaraunts. Fresno used to have at least two. The Santa Fe and another whose name escapes me. I took a bunch of friends from work there several years ago and they fell in love with the place. I haven't been in about 6 years now but if I get back to Fresno I'll sure have to look them up again.

Great simple food and a lot of it.

Thank you for your I-5 California road food tips. I stopped at Harris Ranch for breakfast, good Biscuits and Gravy. A picnic is a good idea, but for the car. The scenery is brown and flat and the temp. was seriously over 100 degrees.
