Nope--no condiments for me. Only thing on my burgers are a healthy amount of cheese

I'm pretty sure we have it around here. I'm at the store almost daily so I'll check. Could you maybe mix salad dressing(Miracle Whip), relish, a little ketchup and almost have it? I've never eaten it but checked it out a little, still in the jar.

It's very similar to Thousand Island dressing, or Big Mac sauce.

My mom used to eat that on all her sandwiches and burgers. I haven't seen it for years.

I remember using it (and enjoying it) but haven't in many years. The whole extended family boycotted hellmans because of health reasons (cholestrol) and switched to miricle whip back when I was young so that I actually prefer it to store bought mayo (homemade is a different critter at least to me) But I would still grab an occiasional jar of sandwich spread once I was on my own. I don't know if it's available here because I haven't looked, but I'm willing to bet superwally has it..

Yeah, a few years ago I ordered a hamburger "plain and dry" at a hotel restraunt, in Meridian, MS, and it came with mayo on it. I ate it anyway and then told the waitress I'd never heard of that before. She looked at me like I was the stupidest person she'd ever met.

After that, I asked some other people about it, and the ones who'd heard of mayo on burgers were all from the Deep South and Indiana and Ohio for some reason.

No, read the label and you won't either.

I am not sure that Hellmans sandwich spread is available in Knoxville but many other brands are. I like it along with mayo and miracle whip. I use each on different occasions.

I tried it a long time ago.Not that it was bad,I just dont think it added anything..We get such good ground chuck at our local butcher that its too good to cover up the taste with something unneccessarily on the heavy side.Just my opinion.

                              Dearfolk,
I'd really like to try Mrs. Clark's Salad Dressing on a hamburger just once. It is, by the way, considered the single ESSENTIAL ingredient for making the proper Iowa Pea Salad (unless you ignore English peas, of course, and render the dish pointless!).
My favorite use for mayonnaise is with canned-in-water tuna; a daub of it well distributed makes it almost illusionarily as rich as the oil version.
Why do all the really tasty things out there make a person who eats them put on weight? Thank God I love salad with a drizzle of olive oil and a hint of good vinegar....
No Shrinking, Violet, Ort. Carlton in Seemingly-Ever-Expanding Athens, Georgia.
                              P. S. I can't recall seeing Hellmann's Salad Dressing, but -- then again -- I haven't been looking for it, either. Shall I check for y'all?

Corabeth, if you want, I can get you a jar of Duke's sandwich spread. There is also another brand, Kraft, I think in the store also.
But I have heard that Duke's mayo is good. (some people say it is the Best mayo)
I have not tried it, as I am a "GASP", Miracle Whip kinda person.
But if anyone else wants to try the Duke's sandwich spead, just send me an email thru roadfood. They do make the smaller jar, so you dont have to get a big one.
I think it is 2 bucks.
Corabeth, I tried to email you, but you dont have any contact info listed.

I use JFG & Durkee branded products on a regular basis. They are excellent. Funny thing; they are always cheaper in my area because they are not recognized regionally. That is fine with me.

I think that you can make a pretty credible imitation of this spread simply by draining some pickle relish and adding it to your favorite mayonnaise. Who knows? It might actually be better than what is in that little Hellman's jar, and it would certainly be more reasonable in price. I would suggest experimenting with different relishes (well-drained) until you find a relish/mayo ratio that suits you.
