Welllllllll, coming from Nebraska where Runzas are probably the "State Dish". They must be made from homemade yeast dough, and filled with cooked ground beef, onions, and purple cabbage. The Lady

...roossy, i used your previously posted recipe and pillsbury pie crust to make runza - it was delicious, but having used green cabbage, it lacked the prerequisite and lovely shade of purple...(it may be sacrilige to some, but i added curry powder to one batch - very yummy)...great recipe!

The Lady I'm surprised that I didn't see Runza on the " Favorite State Dish" thread so I brought it up again to remind some people of things that we take for granted.

I buy the frozen loaves of dough to make mine. Just so everyone that has not seen or knows, the very first runza I made, was with my leftover corned beef, and why I decided on purple cabbage, I have no clue, maybe except for the shock value. Post purple runza's were made the with the "proper" ingredients. Xannie, you can come out again!

P.S. Sorry for the re-posting of this thread. Forgot I started it before. Maybe too many beers... Anyway, thanks for the replies. David O.

I will be making runzas again tomorrow so I wanted to hear of any other variations. I'm making mine the traditional way with ground beef, onions, cabbage, and American cheese. Also going to try BBQ pork runzas with sweetened cabbage,(kind if like a southern BBQ sandwich.) Hope you all have a great week!! Good eating!! David O.
