We have no good Dim Sum restaurants in Knoxville but while in San Fran, I found many. I truly enjoyed this type of meal. I sorta thought of it like a lot of snacks. I am not sure how many types of Dim Sum there is but I would like to know the favorites of folks on this site so the next time I am in an area where Dim Sum is prevalent, I can order that which I know is a favorite of the folks I know.

Mr. Smith, I've only experienced Dim Sum once and that was while living in Tempe, AZ. It was so much fun and very good eating, but I can't say any one thing captured my taste buds more than another. Everything I tried was delicious, but then I don't go for the outlandish, such as chicken feet, etc. But everything else was an adventure and I would love to do it again. And it is such an inexpensive way to try many things out of the ordinary. Just be open to the new experience and enjoy each and every bite.

    Bon appetit

We have a great place here in KC, BoLing's that is wonderful for dim sum on the weekends. Here are just a few of my favorites.

      Shu mai dumplings
      Baked pork buns
      Sesame noodles
      Water spinach with crispy garlic
      Sticky rice in lotus leaves
Shrimp stuffed eggplant with black bean sauce
      Head on shrimp
      Pickled cabbage
      Sliced roasted duck
      Vegetable dumplings
Mock chicken and mushrooms in tofu skin
Pan fried fun rolls with spinach
Shredded sesame vegetables and bean sprouts
      Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce
Chicken feet in black bean sauce
      Egg custard in flaky pastry
      Mango pudding
      Spinach roll with sesame oil
      Steamed sausage roll

If just my husband and I have dim sum, we usually top out at 8 or 9 items and take leftovers home. If our daughter is visiting we can reach 15 or 16 items and have some things to take home.

Paul, Dim Sum, it's a beautiful thing! Donna D pretty well said it all for me! I've never done the chicken foot thing either. All else, bring it on. Seattle's Chinatown was my best experience, Chicago C'town pretty good also(lived in both places). Best enjoyed with friends, one of whom has some knowledge of the offerings. Much like enjoying Tapas. Be brave, enjoy!

San Fran was my best experience with Dim Sum so far. I stayed downtown at the Marriott and there were several Dim sum places close by.

I tried one very nice place on a side street and it was very very good.

Here in Louisville, we have a place called Jade Palace.. it was good for the area... you have to uinderstand I grew up in Taiwan and Hong Kong so Dim Sum is a way of life for me.. my personal favorite is Taro root mashed with pork and deep fried, but I love the rice noodles wrapped with shrimp on the inside and doused with sweet soy sauce, Har Gow which are the shrimp dumplings, the shu mai, the steamed pork buns, I could go on and on...

The chicken feet are actually pretty good.

The few times I've had them they have been cooked in a black bean style sauce and all I seem to taste is the sauce. I remember them being somewhat sweet.
