Are homemade potato chips worth it?

I've never had 'em. They seem to get rave reviews anytime they're made on good ole' Iron Chef, if that's any indication. Are they better than bagged potato chips in the same that homemade, fresh, twice-fried french fries are better than frozen baked ones?
Any experiences making them?
