Sangria Recipe Anyone? Tue, 02/20/07 6:17 PM (permalink)
I am hosting a party this weekend and am making my special Mexican Stuffed Shells (sounds weird, tastes wonderful). One of the guests has suggested that she would like sangria to drink with the meal. Do any of you excepional folks have a recipe that you would be willing to share?

Thank you in advance!

Don't know about specific recipes (I guess googling might help here). When I was in Spain, people always seemed to eyeball the amounts anyway, to taste. The ingredients would be any decent dry red wine(just remember, really bad wine makes really bad sangria), a carbonated lemon-lime soft drink, a carbonated orange soft drink, and sliced oranges and grapes. Important: add to this a healthy slug of brandy; it really does make a difference in the taste.

I have a friend that wants to be buried with a gallon of this Sangria:

      Summer Sangria

      l-lg. bottle red wine
1 cup Triple Sec (to kick it up a notch)
      1/2 cup sugar
      2 cups pineapple juice
      2 cups orange juice
      fruit (optional)

      Mix and chill.
I usually use a red zinfandel, but have also used a merlot.

        My Sangria is simple:
        cheap red wine
        simple syrup to taste
        sliced up oranges, lemons.
chill well, let it age a couple of hours, and enjoy.

But, i think the brandy and the Triple Sec are pretty interesting ideas that I might try next Summer

        Cheers, John

How long can you let the fruit sit in the Sangria? Or does anyone let it go for more than a few ours to absorb the flavors more?

The fruit soaks in the wine 'till all the Sangria is gone. I forgot to mention that I add some sliced limes if I have some on hand.

Oh no, I mean before serving. Is it possible to let fruit and mixture set too long before serving or does it just make it better the longer you can go? Thanks

                  found this on allrecipes.com

You can also use white wine for sangria too.

I dont know, but I dont think I've ever had the fruit and the wine together for more than about a total of about 6 hours...

                    Cheers, John

John, did you think there was any difference between the 2 hours and 6 hours?

Letting the fruit marintate with brandy for an hour or so, and adding a pinch of cinnamon and clove to the mix is a nice touch.

                            Hello all,

Most of the times i have had Sangria, it has been the following recipe

                            Red Wine
                            A large dose of brandy
                            diced apple, orange and strawberries
                            a bit of honey

Never seen it with added fruit juice, but i suppose its done different around the world.

My usual recipe for sangria goes something like this:

                                1 large orange
                                extra orange juice
                                4 to 6 TB sugar
                                1/4 cup lemon juice
                                1 lemon thinly sliced
                                1 bottle dry red wine
                                2 cups ice cubes

Peel orange in one long spiral; cut into short pieces and drop into a large pitcher. Add sugar and mix well with a spoon. Squeeze orange into a measuring cup and add extra orange juice to make 2 cups. Pour wine and juices into pitcher. Stir well. Add ice and chill several hours. Drop lemon slices into pitcher just before serving.

Sounds heretical, but I've had a good tasting sangria with just red wine and Sprite mixed together - maybe 3 parts wine to 1 part Sprite. Slice up oranges, lemons, and limes in thin slices, half or quarter the slices, stir into the sangria.

How about White Sangria, which I rather like and is a great summer drink. Use white wine instead of red wine. Try it!

My recipe comes from a friend whose sister lived in Spain for a while....it never lasts long at backyard parties, and the quantities are easily adjustable.

1-2 bottles good dry red wine. I usually use what I have on hand, so 2-Buck Chuck merlot or Syrah
1-2 12-oz bottles Orange Crush. The glass bottles can still be found at Costco et al, sometimes
1-2 bags frozen mixed fruit--berries, melons, whatever.
A handful or 2 of sliced fresh peaches. These are heavenly after they've soaked a while in the mixture.
Good slug or three of brandy, although rum and/or vodka have also been used on occasion, with no complaints. The frozen fruit keeps it cold and soaks up all the winey alcohol goodness.
